unusual cpu usage

my vista box seems to run failry stable, no diver issues, or related. i use an audio streaming program called SAM and when i use it my cpu clock times are unusually high (50 to 60% cpu clock time). i installed this program on my wifes xp pro box and it only uses 10 to 15% cpu clock times. i have checked cpu priority and for all accounts there is no differences in how the applicatiion is set to run. other than os the only differance is my computer is alot faster/more powerful ( i have a dual core athlon with 2gb ram and she has an athlon 2700+ with 1 gb ram) any suggestions are welcome.:)
