sims 2 game freezing, have 64 bit laptop

Hey, i was hoping i could get some help here. my mother got me a new laptop. its a 64 bit and runs on windows vista. The only game i have loaded onto it is the sims 2 along with a couple expanstion packs. the game loads fine, pretty quickly i should say. However, when in the middle of creating a family or trying to save the new family, my computer will freeze up. I have tried running the game with no other programs running at the same time. I have tried just about everything. I had emailed with the guys at EA games back and forth and their suggestions didn't help. I have even dowloaded direct x 10. And still, the game continues to freeze. I just want to play my game. Can you help me?

Re: sims 2 game freezing, have 64 bit laptop

Hello SooperSpork,

My name is Lindsey and I work with the Windows Team at Microsoft. I saw you are having a problem with your new Vista Operating System and how it operates with Sims 2. I am hoping I can help. On the packaging of the Sims 2 game does it have the Vista logo saying that it is compatible? I looked on the Windows Compatibility website at the Sims 2 game for a 64 bit laptop and it seems they don't have enough information on it. The Sims 2 deluxe IS compatible with a 32 bit. Is your game a Deluxe version? Let me know and I can dig a little deeper and hopefully get this problem solved for you.

Thank you,
Lindsey

i also play that game..very interesting ^_^
well, if that thing cames up, how about ur VGA?
is it "strong" enough to handle SIMS 2 since this version need a lot of resources from GPU (graphic processing unit) located in VGA (video graphic adapter)
please let us know ur VGA..

Re: sims 2 game freezing, have 64 bit laptop

Hello SooperSpork,

Sorry I wasn't more help! I hope you are able to figure it out. It looks like either you are missing a driver or it just isn't compatible. Have you updated your system with the Service Package 1? Make sure you have all of your updates...

To have Windows install important updates as they become available, turn on automatic updating. Important updates provide significant benefits, such as improved security and reliability. You can also set Windows to automatically install recommended updates, which can address non-critical problems and help enhance your computing experience. Optional updates are not downloaded or installed automatically. To learn more about the types of updates that Microsoft publishes, see this Knowledge Base article on the Microsoft Help and Support website.

1. Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button , clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.

2. In the left pane, click Change settings.

3. Choose the option that you want.

4. Under Recommended updates, select the Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates check box, and then click OK. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Even though your machine is new you don't know when Vista was uploaded on the machine. Which means that you may not have all the new updates.

If you have any other questions about your Vista let me know!

Lindsey

As LindseyM asked - are you updated w/ Vista SP1? If so, it includes DirectX 10 v6.00.6001.18000 and as well as Direct3D v10.1.
