Vista vs XP
Folks,
just wondering what people think of Vista compared to XP, i'm not all that convinced Vista is worthwhile, seems a market ploy gone wrong more than genuinely being a better OS, what ye's think? Also, I presume the 2003 version of Microsoft Office works on Vista, true? Last edited by ivanp : 07-22-2008 at 01:53 PM. |

Re: Vista vs XP
I have Vista on one machine since shortly after it came out, and have had no issues at all . . but it's purpose built with plenty of memory. The folks who seem to have the most issues with Vista either bought a system without enough memory, or upgraded to an older system . . not a good idea for Vista.
and there are always the flat earthers . . cannot cope with change . . the same ones who griped about XP, SP1, SP2 and now SP3. Office 2003 runs fine on Vista

Re: Vista vs XP
All the friends I know who have vista on their machines have no problem with it.
I got a free copy from MSDN:A, but yet I still feel no reason to install it. I get all the eye candy I need from the zune theme, and with Windows 7's release scheduled for 2 or 3 years from now, I have little incentive to take the pains to upgrade to from XP until then.

Re: Vista vs XP
The only real problem that I've had with Vista is its incompatibility with some older (like 5+ years) games but there are usually workarounds but, if not, I still have my old XP machine. I've actually had much less technical problems with Vista than I had when I migrated to XP when that OS came out.

Re: Vista vs XP
I think I can play starcraft on my vista 64 machine. The game where I've had the most problems was Hitman blood money. There is the Compatible option in properties so you make it run like it's on xp. Mass Effect for PC was also acting wierd and I fixed that by runnig it as administrator and XP SP2
ill get back to make sure starcraft can run it Ohh and people are just afraid of change, eventually all machines will be 64 bit. They got some new worry out there where 32 bit machines will lock up in 3 decades from now hhahahahaahahaha......... silly people

Re: Vista vs XP
No problems with Vista at all on the 4 x86 and 2 x64 laptops here.
No problems either with the 2 XP Home and 1 XP Pro systems either, although none of the kiddies will use the XP systems anymore - just the Vista ones! jcgriff2 .

Re: Vista vs XP
IMO, most problems you hear about with vista is the person is either too lazy to learn it or they purchased a computer that lacks the resouces that can handle it properly. In addition, they may already have devices/software thats not compatible with it and really dont know where to look to update. They just figure it would be easier to downgrade - and the help forums are full of those who went that route.
Vista is a good operating system and so was xp. IMO, if you are thinking about upgrading your xp for the sake of upgrading, wait until you get another computer. I still have xp on one system and vista on two. I installed vista on day one or two, I have slept since then, though I have had some problems with compatibility issues because I upgraded, I do not regret it. The same thing happened to me when xp was first released, when win98 was released and when win95 was released and when dos6.22 was released :-) There will always be issues when new operating systems are released. see the following for more info on comparing the two http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ista,1531.html

Re: Vista vs XP
Windows VIsta vs Windows XP.
ONLY noobie users will find vista better or equal. The OS is just full of "όnexplainable"BUGS.. Regular basic users, will like vista, its nice and easy to fine an ICON to click, and looks pretty. Has cool visual affects, 1) Game Hackers "Script, hex,UCE,Packet Editing,Files Bypassing,", and Real Games wont like vista. 2) Video Compression MUCH SLOWER Audio Compression MUCH SLOWER 3) I can run 8 CLIENTS of the game 2moons at the same time on XP I can run 2 CLIENTS of the game 2moons at the same time on VISTA 4) I have a TEMP SENSOR between Processor and Heatsynk. Vista IDLE TEMP at 49CΊ XP IDLE TEMP at 34CΊ Linux Idle TEMP at 19CΊ 5) Compatibility OS option has NOT worked for me. On any of the 9 software that i tryed. Other Examples. Gears Of War: Windows XP on my system 91 FPS constant 61 Lowers on MAX Windows Vista 61 FPS MAX, Real Average fps, 21-33 .Bat files do not execute right (very good for Archive Bypass and game hacking switches.) My System AMD Athlon FX62 64bit Processor (DUAL CORE) 2.8 Overclocked to 3.6 (on chip & Bios) 4 GB ddr2 800MHZ ram 2 PCIe 16x Gforce 7950GX2 1gb 48 pipelines each 1 TB SATA2 3G Harddrive (Linux Inside 7.10) 1 820 SATA2 3G Harddrive (Xp sp2 Inside) 1 350 SATA2 3G Harddrive (Vista Inside) 2 750 WATTHybrid (Custom Made By Me) Paralelle Connection PSU 1 DVD BURNER ( dont remember speed but fast) 13 Cooling Fans

Office 2007 is a mess. It appears that all they did is move things around and give it a candy coating. It's a waste of money. They force you into their later versions by refusing to offer critical security updates.
With Vista, it looked great but too much was moved and hidden. I learned it quickly, but didn't find any of the changes beneficial. Games ran slow too. I am going to downgrade to Windows 2000 as soon as I can get it to recognize my hard drive.

Re: Vista vs XP
Linux is a speed demon, I wish Direct3D translated better on it. Unlike a few years ago, it WORKS! Imagine how it will be in a few more years?!
In regards to your hack shell scripts, why don't you try playing fair?

Re: Vista vs XP
Batch files don't work right in vista? That's pretty bad... a lot of businesses rely on shell scripts to get things done on both client and server sides. Especially when it comes to executing java. I really hope they get that sorted, or they're going to have a lot of really unhappy corporate users on their hands. Not to mention the power users of xp who do actually have use for this.
