The option to hibernate has stopped coming up in the menu which you get by clicking on the arrow next to the lock button in the start menu. Hiberfile.sys is there alright, just the option has disappeared. also, i can hibernate by setting the sleep button to hibernate from power options in control panel. please help.

Re: what happened to hibernate?
Hi
Thanks for your time, but actually I'm not talking about the system tray icon. I'm talking about the menu which comes up when you click on the arrow in the start menu (the arrow which is next to the power and the lock buttons) |

Re: what happened to hibernate?
It isn't set to hibernate in my system. I like it set to sleep. I can still hibernate by setting that button to "hibernate" from control panel power options, but there used to be an option for hibernation in that little menu, which has disappeared. It's very annoying.

Re: what happened to hibernate?
It's a known bug in Vista - hibernation "disappears" after using disk cleanup.
Re-enabling it in the command prompt usually fixes it. But, there seems to be more to it in your case... Look at the power options in Control panel - is hibernate one of the default actions? Last edited by Deleted090308 : 07-23-2008 at 07:48 AM. |

Re: what happened to hibernate?
sorry but I don't know what you mean by "one of the default actions." It isn't associated to the sleep button, the power button or the start menu power button. And the computer isn't set to hibernate after a fixed period of inactivity.

Re: what happened to hibernate?
I got it resolved, eneles! The bug occurs when "hybrid sleep" option is enabled in the advanced power options. :)
If anyone is having the same problem and even "powercfg /hibernate on" doesn't solve it, then just do the following: Control Panel->Power Options->click "change plan settings" below the currently selected power plan->click "change advanced power settings"->expand "sleep"-> expand "hybrid sleep" and set it to "off". that should solve it. :) @eneles: how does the forum software know when someone has double-posted? my double posts always disappear after a while even if the text in them isn't exactly the same. ![]() |
