XP hard drive used as slave on vista

can i use my old xp pro formatted hard drive on my new vista computer as a slave drive without losing any of my data or reformatting?

ATA drive / SATA ? either should.. I'd suggest once the drive is operable move the data off that drive to your Vista drive in temp folder.... once your convinced the data you want saved is in the temp folder then you can partition / format the slave drive then move your onto the slave drive.. eveyone has a different method how they wish to place their saved data... " note any programs on the slave drive will be lost"... if their vista compatable you can reinstall the progs.
