vista is using 2 to 2.5gb of ram on idle

hello,

my install of vista ultimate 64 is using between 2 and 2.5gb of ram when idle. it is a fairly fresh install with crysis and wow installed on it... any ideas as to why it uses so much when doing nothing and is there anyway to lower it?

pc specs are to the left

Is there any load on your cpu? or is it just memory?

not really no, between 0 and 5% on both cores. i know 64bit OS's inherently use more ram than 32bit but still it shouldn't be using that much, i know vista is a system hog aswell but hey

Re: vista is using 2 to 2.5gb of ram on idle

Hi, this is Vista doing it's thing or more correctly "superfetch" you see Vista developers (MS) realized that previous OS handled physical memory very poorly so Vista was designed to "cache " if you like what it thinks you are going to do (based on past usage) so as a new install you will get a lot of this it is actually one of the best features of Vista more efficent use of memory. It will settle down and you will notice that programs open faster One thing Vista likes memory and as it is cheap go for it.
