[SOLVED] Problem booting up computer
I'm not sure if this is a general Windows Vista error but i'll try it with you guys here anyway
I'm running Windows Vista 64bit Home Premium on a computer I just recently built up The problem is, when I turn the computer on, I get 2 beeps, then it goes to the windows loading bar, the monitor light turns from green to orange almost like going into sleep mode but the computer is still running, nothing happens, my computer is using AMI BIOS...well anyway, the only thing I can then do is turn the computer off, I then turn it back on again, and it comes up with the improper shutdown screen, so I select Run windows Normally, and the computer then successfully boots up When it boots up it runs perfectly, with single problems at all, I have read that 2 beeps means a parity error, and I have read into it a bit, would this error be the cause of this? if so why would it fail to boot up one time then boot up the next Also most of the things i've read of parity error, when people get this, they can't really do anything on their comp and get error messages, I get no messages at all so i'll put it into these terms for you guys aswell and hopefully someone can help ----- Turn on computer Get's to the Windows loading bar Monitor light goes off, no signal, computer is still running, have to turn computer off Turn computer on Windows wasn't shutdown properly, (I click Run windows as normal) Computer boots up and runs fine from then on in ----- my computer specs are Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, MSI P35 Neo-F Motherboard, Geforce 8800GT Graphics card, 500gb hard drive, anything else you need to know just ask. |

Re: Problem booting up computer
OK, just a little bit more info, the 2 beeps it gets is on the little logo screen for the motherboard, maybe that's just a symbol of it being turned on, then at the screen where it's doing the
Black screen with a _ symbol it makes 1 beep |

That's the case and the power supply is described there, what beeps is it I should be considering? I get 2 at the little MSI logo screen from the motherboard, and then 1 other during when it's going through that list. |

Re: Problem booting up computer
the 2
as per usual the psu's that come with cases are not top quality 3x 12 rails 12x12x6a=30 which gives an available of less than the 26a min required for pcie see if the 2 beeps indicate power

Re: Problem booting up computer
coolermaster are one of the top brands
yours has 3 12v rails with 12a 12a and 6a combined making a total of 30a you cannot make use of all the amps on a multiple rail psu.so you your total of 30a will be reduced to around 24a this is also a coolermaster 550w psu, same wattage as yours but look at the 3 12v rails they are 19a 19a 19a making a total of 54a which is almost double the output of yours http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/.../index_2.shtml i hope that makes it easier to understand

If it's not to much trouble, I would like to run memtest but i'm not quite sure how to, could you give me a detailed description please on how to fully get this going?
Just out of curiosity how are you able to see what my rails are from the page I linked you to, also do you reckon this would play a big part in it? I was fiddling with the computer last night, and now i've turned it on tonight and i'm only getting 1 beep, although it's still hanging. I don't have any spare parts available sorry, 1 think i've noticed, at startup when it's going down the black screen it says "No hard disk detected" Shouldn't it detect it? it detects it on the BIOS and on the OS OK an addition here, just noticed something Keyboard unplugged = 1 beep Keyboard plugged = 2 beep What does it mean? lol Last edited by dai : 07-17-2008 at 07:31 PM. |

Re: Problem booting up computer
d/load memtest here
http://www.memtest.org/ burn it to disk either dos on floppy or the iso burned as a iso on cd then boot the computer from the disk only test 1 stick of ram in the computer at a time i found the rail information through a google search for your case and psu the amps supplied by the rails are the key to a good psu or a rubbish supply the weight of the supply is also a good indication if it cannot see the hard drive in the bios, nothing else will see it either make sure you are looking in the right place for it check the cables are secure

Re: Problem booting up computer
Will it work alright if I burn it to DVD? Which file is it I will need to burn exactly? How do I get to the screen to boot it up?
Also, what's your opinion on that bit of info I gave you about the keyboard, from 2 beeps to 1 beep, regardless, it still hung at the Windows bar and monitor went off. Thing about the whole power supply thing, I can get Windows to fully boot and when it does it has no problems, it just seems to be really hit and miss which isn't the sort of situation it should be |

Re: Problem booting up computer
the hit and miss startup usually indicates it's a psu problem
next time you cold start first turn the power switch off at the back and then on again and see if it boots straight up

Re: Problem booting up computer
just burn the memtest iso to disk as an iso and set the bios to boot from cd first
then boot from the disk

I don't know how to boot from the disk though, or how to get to the screen that boots from disk, it's either going to the bios or the computer starting (or attempting to start) up
Also do I just burn BOOT.CAT and MEMTEST.IMG to the disk anything else I need to do about the disk then? How do I burn it as an ISO The little problems and solutions thing appeared when I booted it up this time, here is what it said Problem signature Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Files that help describe the problem Mini071808-02.dmp sysdata.xml Version.txt View a temporary copy of these files Warning: If a virus or other security threat caused the problem, opening a copy of the files could harm your computer. Extra information about the problem BCCode: d1 BCP1: FFFFFA604501C014 BCP2: 0000000000000002 BCP3: 0000000000000000 BCP4: FFFFFA60026FF43E OS Version: 6_0_6001 Service Pack: 1_0 Product: 768_1 ---- Also, something appears constantly in Windows compatibility found, it is about an Intel ICH9 driver, although I have installed the driver numerous times, the message on that screen appears, although as I mention when booted up the comp is fine and I can even take a screenshot on anything you need to know from it here now, like System Info or something? Re: Problem booting up computer
it is already an iso all you have to do is d/load and burn it
d/l the image file http://www.memtest.org/download/2.01...6+-2.01.iso.gz then open imgburn click on add then go to where you saved the image and click on it then burn
