Re: Problem booting up computer
What exactly IS the ISO?
btw, i've just removed the little jumper and put it back in again that clears the CMOS, as far as I can see, everything is appearing as OK, although I do notice it says IDE Hard Disk, but my Hard Disk is SATA not IDE, it says the CMOS is wrong but that's maybe just because I need to set the time etc again, what else do you think I should be looking for on this screen? |

Re: Problem booting up computer
an iso is an image file
i think you should ask a friend to come round and show you how to burn it before you do some damage there is a bit more to clearing the cmos than just moving the jumper turn the computer off remove the power lead from the back take the side off remove the cmos battery move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2 replace the battery put the side on replug in the power lead boot the computer there can be 2 solder points you touch with a screwdriver 2 pins you touch with a screwdriver or use a jumper a cmos clear switch or button there will be a diagram and instructions in your manual

Re: Problem booting up computer
just reset the time and date
before resetting the cmos to default you need to know what the optimised settings are,so you can reset them

Re: Problem booting up computer
A friend of mine who I was briefly speaking to and knows quite a bit about computers seems to think it's the graphics card, when I mentioned the hit and miss starting up to him.

Re: Problem booting up computer
OK I think it's pretty much confirmed, I uninstalled the graphics card drivers, and the computer has booted up about 10 times in a row now, with a mixture of restarts and start up from complete shutdowns, just done it so many times to make sure it wasn't a fluke.
So where do I go from here :S i'll try to get speaking to that fellow again but if your able to help me now that would be appreciated. --- Managed to get a bit more feedback from him, he told me to turn off Auto reboot in control panel, so that when it's started up again it should give a BSOD with an error code, or something along those lines. Re: Problem booting up computer
OK, Just reading the graphics card manual trouble shooting section
4: Some LCD Display monitors go blank during Windows booting Cause: The LCD display monitor needs special driver software or Current setting of display resolution is beyond the capability of the LCD display --- Well basically during this whole process I have been using a 17" LCD Monitor that came with my sisters computer so I could see the screen on this (my old computer) just so I could use both if help needed, what do you reckon? Re: Problem booting up computer
yes they are both pcie
[OK I think it's pretty much confirmed, I uninstalled the graphics card drivers, and the computer has booted up about 10 times in a row now,] this goes back to what i pointed out before it's not the graphics driver's it is because you are underpowered to run a monitor beyond it specs is not a bright idea unless you want to buy a new one

Re: Problem booting up computer
While the graphics card has been installed, i've put the resolution on this monitor as the same as it was on mine, i've just tried my own monitor and it suffers from the same symptoms, how can we be so sure it's the PSU though?
The monitor i'm using is a Samsung Syncmaster 920N Last edited by LFC Maestro : 07-19-2008 at 12:14 PM. |

Re: Problem booting up computer
dai, you know those little [Solved] thing by topics? i'm pretty sure you can stick 1 of them on this 1
![]() Windows Vista driver updater wasn't picking up anything for this, but I went to the NVidia website and it has this feature where it tests your graphics cards vista ability, and it brought up this driver, it was called x64 Display Drivers I think, so i'm guessing it was sort of a fix to get it to appear on display properly, I decided to look into it more So I checked Wikipedia and it mentioned something about this happening with this certain graphics card.... So...I have successfully booted up this rig 10 times in a row, no problem at all since installing that driver and i'm guessing that's that really. Thanks for your help throughout. |
