Windows Update
I was prompted today to restart my Windows Vista Home Basic SP1 computer to finish installing updates. I postponed the message a few times, before restarting my computer, and as usual, the screen said "Installing Update 1 of 1".
After this finished, the computer restarted as normal, however instead of bringing up the log-on screen, it ran a few lines of code and then restarted again, saying "Configuring Updates, Stage 1 of 3, x% Complete" before bringing up the log-on screen. I figured that the code must have been part of the installation, but as a matter of routine, I checked the installed updates, and was informed that one had failed: http://www.techsupportforum.com/atta...1&d=1215800886 I opened the window for the error code and found it was 80242016. After doing some Googling, I found that a few people had received this code, but no-one seemed to know why. The Microsoft website wasn't any help either. The update installed fine a second time, as you can see on the screenshot, but I just wondered what caused the error the first time so I can prevent it in future. Thanks. |

Re: Windows Update
Hi,
It is hard to say why an update fails. Could have be an error in download. You could check the event viewer to see if there is a clue as to what happened but as long as it installed sucessfully, I wouldn't worry.
