Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
Hi
I hope I am posting this in the right place. This has happened 4 times in the last couple of months, the most recent today. It happens when I boot up and get a flashing blue screen (dissappears too fast to see) then I get a window saying windows has failed to start and then it goes through a repair, then starts as normal. When it finishes booting I get pop up window that says, "windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown", even though I shut it down as normal. This is the error report: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: BlueScreen OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3 Locale ID: 2057 Additional information about the problem: BCCode: 100000c5 BCP1: 0000E510 BCP2: 00000002 BCP3: 00000000 BCP4: 820E8874 OS Version: 6_0_6000 Service Pack: 0_0 Product: 768_1 Files that help describe the problem: C:\Windows\Minidump\Mini070908-01.dmp C:\Users\Kim\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-29905-0.sysdata.xml C:\Users\Kim\AppData\Local\Temp\WERDEE9.tmp.version.txt The second and third files cannot be found and I can't open the dmp ones I am attaching the 4 dmp files in the hope that someone can read them and help me find the cause and a solution If you need any more info just ask Thanks |

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
Hello and thanks for helping
![]() First off, I don't appear to have a memory.dmp file in the windows folder, I even tried putting the path in address bar and got a window saying 'windows cannot find this file' Would it be in a folder?I have attached the dxdiag info There is one flag in DM which is over something called tmcomm under non plug and play drivers. The info in properties reads: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) I installed PSU and graphics card in January. The graphic card has the latest driver The problem occurs occasionally on bootup. It has never happened while the PC has been running Thanks Last edited by katiesnan : 07-10-2008 at 10:21 AM. |

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
the dxdiag file is broke not sure why dont add anything to the end just save it to the
desktop and upload then u can delete it if u want to goto start\Control Panel\System and Maintenance\System\ advanced system settings ( click on advanced tab ) then under start and recovery click settings then under write debugging info choose kernel memory dump and when the next time u get a ( bsod ) blue screen of death post the memory dump have updated the graphics card drivers and what brand & model & watt is the psu no the memory dump would only be in C:\windows and to the flag in the device manager goto it again and double click on it and under device status what does it say under that Regards -{-WarLord-F-Mike-}-

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
Ok, attached dxdiag again, not sure what happened with last one, I didn't add anything to it
![]() Kernel memory dump was already checked, so can't understand why I don't have the dmp file. Could it be that the system startup repair actually did a system restore to last restore point? I seem to remember something popping up about system restore when I got bsod yesterday. Graphics card is Nvidia geforce 8600GT with latest driver and PSU is Nexus NX-4090 400w Device status reads: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24) ......and under driver status it says stopped |

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
Ok, I am in the process of downloading the audio driver which is really slow. In the meantime, a search for the memory.dmp came up with nothing. I even searched memory and dmp on their own and still nothing. I will post back when I have the drivers installed. Will you want another dxdiag log?

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
there should be a setup.exe in folder thats for the audio driver
and thats wried that the windows is not making the memeory.dmp file as its set to but maybe the minidump file's will give some info as to if u get any more ( bsod ) blue screen of death just post the minidump as each bsod happen's and have u try updateing the unknown device Regards -{-WarLord-F-Mike-}-

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
I have found out why the memory dump was not being created. The answer lay in the event viewer. The error read:
"Configuring the Page file for crash dump failed. Make sure there is a page file on the boot partition and that is large enough to contain all physical memory." So I have increased the page file I haven't updated the sound driver as I have no idea where to unzip the files to. I have also found out what tmcomm is. It is for TrendMicro which I no longer use as I now have avast AV, that explains why it is stopped If you could tell me which folder to unzip the audio driver to, I will get that installed Thanks for all the help |

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
hello and good work sorry that i did come right away did not get the email for ur reply
not sure why but just unzip it the desktop and open the unziped folder and there should be a setup.exe file in there what was the page file set to before u changed it and put it on system managed as that will work better and if not then put back on what u set to Regards -{-WarLord-F-Mike-}-

Re: Intermittent shutdown/startup problem
No worried Mike, I'm not in any hurry lol. I got the driver installed. Can't remember what the page file was set at, but it was lower than total memory so I set it one and a half times my total memory, which I read was recommended. However do you think system managed is best? If so I will set it at that.
So far it's been ok. On a lighter note, I am getting a new PC in a couple of weeks and my son is having this pc. So I will tell him to refer back to you if the problem arises again if that's ok? Thanks again for all your help young man, it's appreciated ![]() Last edited by katiesnan : 07-13-2008 at 05:50 AM. |
