boot mgr missing in action
hello, i am currently working on a trio boot with vista, xp and open suse 10.3(linux) . i bought my laptop new with vista pre-installed even though i hated the idea. anyway it did not come with the cd of coarse.I tried to get xp installed first but it choked and was unable to see my HD, i have ben told a million things and none of them seemed to work, but the problem was
it had no sata drivers. anyway so after having left several threads and no anwsers worked(except the floppy idea, which i just got today and will try later)but i decided to go for linux.I went to install and it crashed mid way trying to shrink vista partition, then i tried again and it worked fine, loaded and was able to boot it! then i tried to select vista from the options and it prompted me that i was missing my boot mgr.i went online and i only found the option to use the dvd it came with(which i didnt have). So i went online and found how to make my own, booted it and tried the start up repair and it said nothing was wrong...LIe's!!...and i then found the command bootrec /fixboot,tried it and it completed. went and still didnt work.i also read that vista might have had its bootmgr moved to a different partition when i instaled linux, but that completely lost me lol also after i did the command i went to linux which tossed me a message saying a bug error had ocured but seemed alright when i restarted. if u finished reading all that thank you for taking the time haha |

Re: boot mgr missing in action
To help wth XP install, go to your BIOS and change SATA mode from AHCI to IDE
Note that this might produce problems like I had in my thread (very similar) |
