OS: Vista Home Premium sp1

Exclamation vista premium very slow copying files to DVD

Hi everyone.

I've got a problem. For several days I have had extremely slow OS (vista premium). Finally took side of case off and speed has increased quite a bit. Looks like maybe CPU problems.

BUT I have been trying to copy my downloaded files to a DVD for storage and it is so slow that it hurts!

CPU is 3.2 gig
DVD drive is lightscribe 32X

Just copied and pasted files to the drive and it takes literally hours to copy over.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi. . .

Try doing the same under SAFEMODE and see if speed increases. What does it tell you the transfer rate is (xxxmb/sec)?

Regards. . .

Greetings and thanks.
Tried that, and of course it worked.
Previously I had tried to install an update of Vista SP1. I think that was the culprit because it would not complete the install. The error was one not listed in the information given by Microsoft.

After I wrote this quest for help, I found a forum who suggested trying to install the stand alone version. I downloaded and tried it too.

I also got an uncomplete install with and error code that indicated I did not have some special update on my computer.

However, since that attempt to install the standalone version of SP1, the computer is working fine now.
It must have gotten rid of some part of the original update that was causing the problem.

I still get notifications that my update to sp1 is waiting for install, but as you might guess, I'm leaving it alone.

Thanks for your help.

H Ken. . .

In the interim, please check HERE Microsoft bulletin out.

Please download and install Belarc Advisor then run it - it will appear in a web browser screen - please save the output in "mht" format (Top right of Internet Explorer screen; Page; Saved as; save as mht), as a web page (html) or as a 2007 (only) Word document. You can download Belarc HERE. I would like to see the status of your windows updates in addition to seeing system information. Thanks.

This must be sent to me via email, as it contains sensitive key code information. Please send me a PM requesting my email and I will gladly provide it.

Regards. . .
