hi
i saw this fourm and thaught that maybe i could be saved =] well basicly long story short i attemted to add some patched dll files only to add the wrong ones (i think i stuck 64bit ones on my 32bit system) the files are: themeui.dll uxtheme.dll shsvcs.dll before anyone asks i did try to use the patch for new themes but back to the problem my laptop will start in safe mode with explorer failing ect so all i have is the CMD starting in ''C:\Windows\system32\'' i do have the origonal 3 files under the extensions of .old so basicly all i need to know is how to rename the .old files back to .dll is it possible? cheers lew |

Re: im a fool with my .dll files..
lol... if you can get a command prompt then type:
Code:
cd C:\windows\system32\ ren themeui.old themeui.dll (and then obviously the same fot he others) you may first have to delete the files securely, it's adviseable to just create a batch file with the commands you need... e.g: Code:
del C:\Windows\System32\themeui.old ren C:\Windows\System32\themeui.old themeui.dll ... Cheers, Jamey |

Re: im a fool with my .dll files..
If that doesn't work just copy them off of the Windows CD...
Go into the Recovery Console, get to the Command Prompt, cd to i386. and type expand <filename> c:\windows\system32 It will copy a fresh copy of the DLL over the old one. Hope this helps! |

Re: im a fool with my .dll files..
Okay, well this sounds like a job for recovery console or whatever it's called, google for information on fixing stuff like that. You may just have to use the vista disk to re-install the theme (because once vista is installed it's an effort to customise)
Sorry i can't be of more help, jamey |

Code:
del C:\windows\system32\themeui.dll ren C:\windows\system32.themeui.old themeui.dll or, i think, just getting those files from a friend and copying them should do, but I'm not 100% sure. try copying and if that doesn't work, use Vista DVD to recover. Sorry all, it was a late night.
But ssj4Gogeta is completely right. Glad you got it sorted despite my non-help. Cheers, Jamey |
