Problem connecting to the internet
Any and all suggestions will help here. This is my problem...
I can connect to my internet through trillian (What I use for chatting online) But nothing else will connect, including but not limited to: Internet explorer, Maxthon browser, Opera, Firefox, Windows updater, and so on. If anyone can find the solution they would have my love forever... Things I have tried... Changing autotuning, flushing my DNS.. changing every setting on my networking, reconnecting, disconnecting, installing linux (Linux is my lover but I haven't managed to install it on this laptop, I think it is because I have Vista on it... that is what it came with) I have also tried all the most basic cleaning things anyone ever does with internet. [My friend told me to post this here for him, since apparently he can't get on the internet.] |

Re: Problem connecting to the internet
Investigate the following:
- xDSL Modem issues - Wireless Issues - Does it work from another computer? - Cable(s) Telephone or UTP issues - Firewall (some firewall proggies can block all internet access) like Mcafee or Norton - ping localhost - that would test if your TCP/IP is available - Ping your ISP IP address - Make sure it's not a problem at your ISPs end... expired CC details means snip-snip service! PS: You can still dual-boot Vista and Linux such a Ubuntu ... google dual-boot vista linux |

Re: Problem connecting to the internet
Oh gee Im sorry, I just noticed that you can connect to Trillian for chat but not through web browsers.
- perhaps check your proxy settings - ensure that port 80 and 443 are not blocked on your firewall program / router. - Turn off windows firewall and see if that helps - Can you ping a web address www.microsoft.com - Can you ping your ISP address - Windows Update will not work either becasue it requires your IE or web browser to be functional. - Try to connect to an IP address http://207.46.19.254 instead of the web address www.microsoft.com to determine if it's a DNS issue. More then likely it will come down to firewall (blocking port 80/443) or DNS. |
