Windows DVD Maker - Vista, not burning!

Hi.

I've read somewhere that Windows DVD Maker on Vista Home Prem sometimes just for no reason doesn't burn anymore.

It's happened to me now.
I have been burning DVD's for months with no problems, made some great DVD's (love the menus etc).

Now, nothing, it encodes and gets to 99.9% and ejects the disc saying there was a problem.
I have changed the DVD speed to medium, using correct codecs that I've always used, and also using Verbatim DVD-R AND DVD+R's...
The driver is fine, checked it... it can burn MP3's and images to DVD using Media Player.

I just don't know what it wrong, I've wasted 15 blank DVD's now.
Tried to find some free DVD maker programmes but none I've come across are free, or dont have the cool menus etc that Windows DVD Maker has.

I also have enough free space, did a big cleanout as well, still no burning

Can someone help?

Thanks

- Geoff

Re: Windows DVD Maker - Vista, not burning!

Try removing upper and lower filters in the registry. Click the Start button, in the search box type regedit and navigate to the following:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-
and delete both upper and lower filters. Hope this helps.

Re: Windows DVD Maker - Vista, not burning!

A good tip for Windows DVD Maker problems is to start the project via Windows Movie Maker.

Simply start WMM, import your desired video file and drag it to the storyboard....you can add some effects here too. When you're ready to proceed, select Publish Movie then choose DVD. This will then open Windows DVD Maker, choose your style and edit the title etc and start the burn.

It may sound like a backward way to do things but it works.
