avi files cannot be deleted in VISTA

Hi there

I'm just new to this and hope you can help me. The problem is that around 600 avi files (of an unsavoury nature) have downloaded onto my laptop and I cannot delete them. I suspect from Limewire. I purchased Reg cure but that has not removed them either. Have tried HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}\InProcServer32 Got as far as CLSD but the following numbers do not exist.

Tried this too but got to the avi part and then no shellex or Property Handler to be found.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\.avi\shellex\PropertyHandler

This is very frustrating HELP!!!!

Re: avi files cannot be deleted in VISTA

Not sure of the exact procedure but I understand there is a way of deleting files from the command prompt with explorer turned off.

So I would guess that you open the command prompt, end task explorer, delete the files in question from the command line, then re load explorer.

Like I said I am not sure of the exact step by step procedure so I would suggest you have a search around the net for it before attempting it as if your not sure what you are doing you could kill windows.

So be very careful!!!

Hope this is of some help.

Re: avi files cannot be deleted in VISTA

Did you download these videos or did they suddenly appear?

If these are files that you have not downloaded yourself, then it's possible that your computer is infected and being used as a zombie by file sharers who turn your computer into a server for illegal material.

Can you delete the files in safe mode?

Have you run any malware scans?

Be careful editing the registry, and always make a backup before making any changes.

Personal computers secretly under the control of hackers are called Zombie Drones. Hackers often network Zombie Drones into groups (see Botnet) in order to carry out spam campaigns and to shut down Web sites in denial-of-service attacks. Hackers have turned Zombie Drones into servers hosting pornography and used their control of the computer to steal personal identity information. Because the activities of Zombie Drones are hidden from view, most consumers will not realize their home computers have been compromised.
