Multiple BSODs every day

OK I just closed Firefox by accident and it didn't remember what I typed so I'll have to type this all over again.

I built this computer in September, my first build. Everything was fine for a few months, then I started getting blue screen crashes every couple of days. That was a little annoying but not the end of the world so I didn't put much thought into it. That lasted a couple of months. But for the past couple of months it's been crashing several times a day, I counted 8 times once but 3 is more usual.

My CPU was running hot for a while but I fixed that and it didn't help. Most of the BSODs mentioned the file rtlh64.sys, the driver for my on-board NIC. So I disabled that, uninstalled the drivers, and replaced it with an IBM NIC card. I still have the same number of crashes, it just mentions various files now instead of that one.

I keep the PC up to date as much as I can, latest drivers, service pack, any Windows Update that becomes available, Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware.

I have long threads about this on Extremetech.com and EggXpert.com but nobody offered anything that helped. I was hoping maybe I could find some help here. Thanks.

Some of the stop errors I have seen:

0x0000001E
0x000000D1
0x000000BE
0x0000004E

My System

Re: Multiple BSODs every day

Hi Phil. . .

I saw the info posted on the other site, but I would like to take my own look at the kernel memory dumps to see if I can come up with some additional help for you. The dumps are located in c:\windows\minidumps - GET THEM ALL!

I am in need of complete system information from you - and then some - to do so:

Belarc Advisor report saved as a web page (html, mht (IE7/8) or as a 2007 (only) Word document docx. You can download Belarc HERE

DXDiag report - START | type dxdiag into the Start Search box | right-click on dxdiag.exe | select Run as Administrator | respond to User Access Control prompt | Save as a text file.

msinfo32 NFO file - START | type msinfo32 into the Start Search box | right-click on msinfo32.exe | select Run as Administrator | respond to User Access Control prompt | System Information will then come up | save the report in System Information File (NFO) format by selecting File, then Save As.

Event Logs - Get them all - dozens -They are located in: c:\windows\system32\winevt\logs.

• Please download to your Desktop - Deckard's System Scanner (DSS), HERE, right-click on it; select Run as Administrator. DSS.exe will most likely as you to allow the download of HiJackThis - please allow it to do so. When finished in a minute or two, a Notepad will appear with a file name of main.txt - save it as a text file. Then minimized will be another report - extra.txt - save it as a text file as well.

Zip all of these files up and send them to me via email - simply click-on my screen name to the left and send me a PM, then I will provide my email address. I will look through the >75+ files and go through them as time permits.

In the interim, I suggest that you check these areas for further information if you have not already done so yet:

• The Event Viewer -
START | type eventvwr into the Start Search box | right-click on eventvwr.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view the various logs starting with the Administrative logs.

• Problem Reports and Solutions:
START | type wercon.exe into the Start Search box | right-click on wercon.exe that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view "See Problems to Check'.

• Reliability and Performance Moniter:
START | type perfmon into the Start Search box | right-click on perfmon that appears up top | select Run as Administrator | view both the Performance Moniter and the Reliability Moniter.

Good Luck to you.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

Re: Multiple BSODs every day

I'll look that info up. As far as the power supply I got it from a local shop. It doesn't have a name on the box but it's 550 watt. If it means anything it's clear acrylic with 2 fans and blue LEDs. The box is mostly blue/green and has a little cartoon demon with wings who's carrying a PC case. I got another for my old XP machine and that's running fine.

Re: Multiple BSODs every day

Still gathering the other info, but I did a little research and found the PSU is made by Logisys. It's this one.
http://www.logisyscomputer.com/views...ID=POWERSUPPLY

On NewEgg:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817170011

Funny thing is when I went to pick it up I originally told the guy I wanted 750 watt and looked at me like I was crazy saying they don't carry anything that big, then suggested the 550 and said that would be all I could possibly need.

Re: Multiple BSODs every day

It won't let me copy the event logs it just says "File not found or no read permission". Does that have to be done with UAC turned off?

Re: Multiple BSODs every day

After disabling UAC and rebooting I was able to zip up those logs. I'll send a PM.
