Start Up problems
Hi everybody,
I have recently noticed start up/ shut down problems. I am running Vista Home Premium. When I tried to shut down for the past couple of days instead of shutting down windows would just restart, so I would have to shut it down by holding the power button down. Well when I went to start it today it will get past the initial loading sequence (Checking memory, Drives...etc) but then it stops and there is a blank screen. When I try to navigate through the boot menu my keyboard will not work, but I can navigate through the bios. Anybody have an ideas to what is going on? I also installed updates last night so I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Thank you. |

Re: Start Up problems
shutting down using the case button corrupts the hard drive
the restarting sounds like a bios misconfiguration boot from the vista dvd and on the bottom left of the install screen click on repair option once you get back in run chkdsk f/ /r note down your bios settings so you know what to reoptimise to then reset the cmos and see if the reboot is gone

Re: Start Up problems
When I try to boot the vista from cd/dvd it goes to the screen that ask if i want to boot windows in safe mode...but i cannot navigate the options, so it trys to boot normally but the previous problem occurs.

Re: Start Up problems
reset the cmos and reset it after to boot from cd first and see if it then picks it up
if not check the disk on another computer to make sure the disk is bootable turn the computer off remove the power lead from the back take the side off remove the cmos battery move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2 replace the battery put the side on replug in the power lead boot the computer
