Vista 64-bit ... Constant BSOD's
So... I've read a couple of the other posts regarding 64-bit Vista, and I am now incredibly frustrated. Varying BSOD's have occurred, usually during some intensive process ( or non-intensive in some cases, like browsing the internet ). I am getting fed up with it, and the fact I bought eight gigs of RAM more than merits the reason I should be using 64-bit... I do not want to go back to 32-bit, but it's definitely one of the options that are on the table.
My current rig is as follows... PSU: PC Power & Cooling 860W MOBO: DFI LT X48-T2R CPU: Intel E8400 OC'd to 4.0 GHz GPU: nVidia 8800 Ultra 768mb SFX: Razer Barracuda AC-1 RAM: 8192 MB of DDR2 ( G.Skill ) HDD: 2x Western Digital Caviar 750 Gb in RAID 0 OS: Windows Vista 64-bit I'm at the end of my thread here guys, I need help ASAP. What all do I need to include for this to be solved / diagnosed? Additionally, I have run every CPU and RAM test I have been able to find, they've run for hours with zero errors... but suddenly I start actually using my PC - and it will BSOD without warning. Thanks, Dave Last edited by hwg : 05-11-2008 at 05:26 PM. |

Re: Vista 64-bit ... Constant BSOD's
Have you installed the hotfix pack for having that much memory in Vista? (Or it will BSOD)
And drop the OC anyway for a while and see how much it BSODs. You need to tell us what error code it gives when it BSODs. |

Re: Vista 64-bit ... Constant BSOD's
Was able to figure it out...
CPU overclock wasn't the problem, RAM was. There was however nothing physically wrong with it, it was what was controlling it. I found out the North Bridge was WAY undervolted, so I upped the voltage from 1.24 to 1.35, and has been stable with OCCT passing it for the past few hours without one problem. Thanks, I guess? |

Re: Vista 64-bit ... Constant BSOD's
check the makers site for it's rated voltage
the boards default at a lower voltage to cater for the low quality ram and with the better quality you have to manually set it glad you have it sorted

Re: Vista 64-bit ... Constant BSOD's
nice one mate i'll try that and that makes sense coz i just read the pdf file which came with the link above and i used far too much compound i have just upgraded to the black edition 64x2 6400+ and put an akasa bubble pump heat sink but what confused things i istalled vista ultimate 64 bit edition
i think i did too many mods without testing if they were ok and rather than using one and a half uncooked short grain rice size amount as discribed i used a full platefull ha! thank you so much for your help and swift responce Kind regards Dean |
