User Profiles SERVICE problem
I tried searching for a solution to my problem, but whenever I search for it, I end up with the wrong problem.
turns out, when you search for "user profile service", you end up with a bunch of results of peoples profile not being loaded. Well, I do have that exact problem, but actually my version of this problem is a bit more severe than the ones I've read. Normally, people seem to have a corrupt profile, and can sometimes be fixed by a variety of ways (i.e - system restore, registry edit of profile files etc). My problem, however, involved the actual services in Services.msc. When I load vista (which was working fine last night and this morning), the first thing i notice, is that it's going a little slower than usual, then i notice there is no log on sounds. when it loads the desktop, I see it's taken me to the domain administrator account, or some form of temporary account. It tells me there is no sound service first, and then goes on to tell me there is also no internet connection, and lastly tells me, it cannot load limited profiles because the "User Profiles Service" Service has not started. Naturally, I go into services.msc and try to start it up. Yet another error tells me that the service cannot start due the file being missing. I locate the file fairly swiftly and see for myself that the file is NOT missing and is where it always was (system 32). The last thing I also noticed, is that when i go to task manager, I see that the amount of processes has dropped significantly, from the usual 50-60, to the now rather daunting 25 total processes. I then realise that A LOT of the services have not started, and all come up with various errors when trying to start them again. Any suggestions? From here on it looks like I might have to re-install vista :( If you need to know, it's Vista Ultimate x64bit edition. It's really a shame because it was working wonderfully since today! (they say there isn't much 64 bit support, but so far I've got all my usual programs to work on it, whether it's 64 bit or remains in 32bit). |
