Windows vista Audio problems

My friend is having a problem with his windows vista audio, everything seems to work fine, music plays, so I assume the drivers are updated. The only problem is when he plugs his piano into his Mic input, the recording software picks up the signal, but the only problem is, there is no sound comming out through the speakers, what's more interesting is that when we want to listen to some music, it plays...werid ain't it

We already checked the audio properties, when the piano is connected to the mic input, the mic input picks up the signal, but in the playback tab, it doesn't pick up the signal, but when regular audio is being played, the playback picks up the signal.

So we opened up the recording software, since the MIc input picks up the signal we just pressed record even tho we couldn't hear a damn thing, but the software was still picking up sound. We stop the recording and press play and it playsback the recording.

SO my question is, why can vista play back audio, but it can't playback the external piano connected to it. Why can the recording software pick up the external audio signal, but doesn't sound out, only when recording it and play it back ourselfs.

hope I wasn't confusing, we need help with this confusing process.

it's a laptop "Gateway MT3421"

Re: Windows vista Audio problems

No, the piano doesn't need drivers, the piano has an Audio out which connects to the laptops mic input.
