Installed update, drivers dissapeared
I installed "optional updates" for Vista Home Edition, and all of a sudden my resolution won't go above 1280x1024 (I have a 1680x1050 monitor that was running fine before the update) and my sound card no longer has any drivers.
According to dxdiag, the Radeon driver is still there (my card is an x1600), but there is no sound driver or sound card detected now. I have a Dell Dimension E521 and I was using the sound card integrated into the motherboard. One of the updates I installed was an nForce update for my mobo, so I'm assuming that's the one that wrecked my sound. I do not have any recent restore point to do a system restore. How does downloading an update to my drivers instead delete my drivers? Should I just go redownload the drivers specifically from the ATI and nVidia sites, or could there be something else weird going on here that I need to know about? |
