to vista or not to vista?
Sorry if this has been repeated alot. But I am going to go with a new operating system and was wondering what the vista crowd overall review was? Also I talked with a friend and he said that vista supports direct x 10. He said it was a huge difference graphically from direct x 9. Anyone offer any advice weather to go with vista or xp? I have only really heard bad things from vista users. Was wondering if maybe sp1 took care of alot of the original bugs?

Re: to vista or not to vista?
I recently switched to vista using a dual boot setup so I still have my XP if vista gives me too much grief which it hasn't at all. I personally think my Vista has been running smoother then my XP ever did.

Re: to vista or not to vista?
I am not trying to drop 400 dollars on operating systems. Lets just say I would have to buy a CORRECT verion of windows xp and vista to dual them. I was just wondering which one I should go with? I dont want to use the "p" word I got shut down in the xp forum.

Re: to vista or not to vista?
As long as you have the hardware to run Vista, go with Vista. If you have less than 1GB of RAM, then it might not be such a good idea. I use it at home and I'm very happy with it. It feels much smoother and more secure than XP ever did.
By staying with XP for now, you're only going to be that much farther behind everyone else when you do eventually have to make the transition. Let's face it, software developers aren't going to keep wasting their time ensuring their programs work on older (ie non-Direct X10) operating systems forever. Sure, Vista had some issues when it was first released. And unfortunately, it still hasn't been able to shake that bad press that surrounded its release, but it's a good OS now. HTH Elkar |

Re: to vista or not to vista?
I have to admit I really like Vista. It works well with Pinnacle, and it it's intrusive at times. . . a lot, in fact. . . it keeps my partner from messing things up. I have an HP duo-whatsit with 3 GB. Now I'm trying out Scribus, and so far, it's pretty good.
