Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
This sounds like more of an issue with your ISP than it does with your Vista-based PC. What type of Internet connection do you use (dial-up, DSL, Cable)? Is your PC using a wireless connection to a router or broadband modem? What is the make/model of or PC? Who is your ISP? What is the make/model of your modem and/or router? Is this slow speed issue a NEW problem or did it just occur? If it is a new problem, what has changed prior to having this slow-speed problem? - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
So you're running Vista now or did you go back to XP? Are you using a wired or wireless connection to your modem? If wired, are you using Ethernet or USB? What is the exact make/model of your modem? What is the model of the D-Link card in your PC? Do you have to use any special connection software on your PC or does your Broadband modem automatically connect to the Internet? Could be a driver issue with your D-Link NIC or an issue with the network settings on your PC. Reply with the answers to these questions and I can hopefully help. - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Well currently im running vista, and the modem is wired, and its ethernet, it connects automatically does not need a software or something before using it...
The modem is scientific atlanta it was given to me by my supplier as in internet provider... And i rechecked what i was using now, i am using a diffrent network card i think i have 2... the one im using is a Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection does this help ? |

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
Yes this does help. You said that you have 2 ethernet cards. Are they both installed in your PC or just the "Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network" Are you running any Anti-virus, Internet Security or Firewall software? If so what is the software and versions. In your original post, you said that downloading (and I'm assuming web browsing) is working at normal speeds but that uploads were very slow. Was this upload speed issue always a problem or did it just start happening? Have in installed or changed anything prior to the upload speed slowing down (driver updates, network config changes, browser add-ons, etc.)? I'm thinking that just to be on the safe side - you should first visit the Maware forum at: http://www.techsupportforum.com/secu...this-log-help/ Post a message and follow the steps to scan your PC for viruses or malware as this could be a cause of your problem. I would also go to: http://www.dslreports.com/tools And run the "Speed Tests" and "Tweak Tests". If the tech from your cable company didn't have upload speed issues on HIS laptop connected to your modem - then something is obviously going on with your PC. - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Nah i only installed one, the other isint installed :)...
just Intel(R) 82566DC Gigabit Network is the one working... Yeh im running AVG 8.0 activated for a year legally. And also spyware Hunter. Do you have any better that you recommend me getting ? well web browsing, music dowloading, files ect... all are at normal speed. My download speed is 25.88 and my upload is taking way too long its still scanning or working... Finally it said its 0.05... Well its been like this since the begining... and nah i still didnt update the driver, maybe you can recomend where or what i should dowload to update my driver... This is what the tweak test showed... 1. Your Tweakable SettingsReceive Window (RWIN): 262140 Window Scaling: 2 Path MTU Discovery: ON RFC1323 Window Scaling: ON RFC1323 Time Stamping: OFF Selective Acks: ON MSS requested: 1460 TTL: unknown TTL remaining: 113 TOS flags: none set 2. Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
I would try the malware scans on the other forum here BEFORE you make any other changes. If those scans turn up no malware infections, I would try temporarily disablng ALL of your anti-virus and firewall software then try those DSLREPORTS.COM tests again. I'm thinking you have TOO many anti-virus programs and possibly firewalls running at the same time. This could be a potential problem - AVG 8.0, Spyware Hunter, Bit Defender and possibly Vista's built-in firewall. You can download the latest driver for your Intel Ethernet card at: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filt...6&submit=Go%21 - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Nah,i have already disableid them all before, but no luck...
and the reason i have 3, is because previously with my xp, i was being attacked none stop till i actually got a virus the pissed me off... lol... then fixed it ultimately but yeh,,, so my thoughts are better safe then never, i tried disabilling everything that has to do with security but no luck, and i followed the instructions there, and it led me to a site, and AVG was recomended and so was windows defender and they said Install an anti-spyware scanner (or two...)... so :S... what should i do now ? |

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
There are anti-virus programs which scan on demand only (i.e. you have to force a scan) and there are antivirus programs that run as background services, scanning every file you open or download or launch. Having two programs which actively scan for viruses at the same time, this is going to make your PC VERY slow and cause potential conflicts. The same is true with Firewall software. If your AVG has a built in firewall, then DISABLE the Windows Vista firewall. If AVG doesn't have a firewall, the enable the Vista firewall but DO NOT attempt to run two firewalls at the same time. If you HAVE detected malware on your PC, be sure to remove it before trying anything else to solve your upload speed problem. If you've confirmed that your PC is clean of malware - I would start by downloading and installing those Intel Ethernet drivers that I linked you to in my previous post. If upgrading to these new Intel drivers doesn't fix the problem, then we need to take a closer look at your network settings in Windows (TCP/IP settings, MTU, bindings, protocols, Internet Connection settings, etc.) as well as the hardware configuration settings for your Intel NIC card (i.e. duplex, speed, buffers, etc.). - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
Serenatous,
Go to Control Panel, Network & Sharing Center, click "Diagnose & Repair" (on the left side of the screen). Run this and see if identifies any problems. If it DOES find problems, allow Vista to attempt to repair these problems or report them back here. If the Diagnose & Repair doesn't work: Try disabling TCP AutoTune as follows: Start" > "All Programs" > "Accessories" > "Command Prompt" At the command prompt, type: netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disable <press Enter> then type: netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled <press Enter> Type: Exit <enter key> Now reboot your PC. Try these things one at a time and report the results. - John

Re: I need help, with the internet!
I was thinking maybe enabling my other network card and using it instead would be easier, now all i have to figure out is how to let it show in vista, i dono wht vista doesnt recognize it or even see it, although i have already installed the software needed, and so on :S, maybe its kinda not fully in from inside, i gota check that later sigh :S...
