Re: I need help, with the internet!

Serenatous,

Is this upload speed problem specific to IE (and/or other Browsers such as FireFox, Netscape, etc.)? Have you tried uploading with something other than a browser, such as an FTP client?

We need to narrow your problem down to either the Application layer, the network protocol layer or the phsysical hardware layer. If uploading is slow in IE, but normal in other browsers or uploading in FTP client problems - than it's likely a problem with IE or some IE add-on.

If the upload speed is slow with ALL programs that access the Internet (IE, FTP clients, the upload features in Chat programs such as Yahoo messsenger or AIM), then something could be screwed up with your IP stack, winsock or network configuration.

If the network protocols, services, etc are configured correctly - than this could be a problem with the physical layer - i.e. your NIC card settings (link speed, duplex, buffers, etc.).

Check the upload performance using something OTHER than your browser - such as AIM, Yahoo Messenger or some FTP client progam.

Just to make sure - we've ruled out a malware infection, firewall or internet security program as being the cause - right? If you disabled these programs and the upload speed didn't change - then it's safe to say that these programs aren't the issue.

Re: I need help, with the internet!

Serenatous & webbm2,

Lets try disabling IPv6 in Vista. To do this:

Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Centre -> Manage Network Connections -> Right Click on Local Area Connection or Wirless Connection and Click on Properties -> Untick/Disable Internet Protocal Version 6.

Restart & retest your connections (upload speeds).

Question, are you BOTH having slow upload speeds on WIRED connections as well? I believe webbm2 said YES - not sure about Serenatous. It would be helpful to know if this is JUST a WiFi issure or it affects BOTH WiFi & Wired.

Sorry this is taking so long to resolve. There seems to be a LOT of Vista users having slow network connectivity - especially overy WiFi on laptops. If removing IPv6 doesn't fix the problem, we may need to completely uninstall and re-install all network components (NIC devices (wired & wireless), Protocals, Services, conections, etc) then reinstall from scratch (NOT Windows vista - just the networking components).

Re: I need help, with the internet!

I'm coming in late the the thread, so pardon me if I ask redundant questions.

Let's start by getting a recap of the entire situation.

Please supply the following info, exact make and models of the equipment please.

What country are you located in.
Name of your ISP (Internet Service Provider).
What is the expected Upstream/Downstream speed for your ISP Connection?
Make and exact model of the broadband modem.
Make and exact model of the router (if a separate unit).
Model numbers can usually be obtained from the label on the device.
Connection type, wired or wireless.
If wireless, encryption used, (none, WEP, WPA, or WPA2)
Version and patch level of Windows on all affected machines, i.e. XP-Home (or XP-Pro), SP1-SP2, Vista, etc.
The Internet Browser in use, IE, Firefox, Opera, etc.

Please give an exact description of your problem symptoms, including the exact text of any error messages.

If you're using a wireless connection, have you tried a direct connection with a cable to see if that changes the symptoms?

If there are other computers on the same network, are they experiencing the same issue, or do they function normally?

On any affected computer, I'd also like to see this:

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

Type the following commands:

PING 216.109.112.135

PING yahoo.com

NBTSTAT -n

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Re: I need help, with the internet!

Serenatous,

I would still follow up with the answers to those questions johnwill requested as there might be something going on here causing your WOW disconnect problem.

Glad you finally got the speed problem fixed! As for your WOW disconnection issues - did you experience such disconnections BEFORE you had the upload speed problems? Do these disconnects always happen or just during certain times of the day? It might an issue with the WOW server you're accessing being overloaded. I'm not ruling out something that's still not set right on your PC or network configuration - but I would be careful to not make any hasty changes to anything as we don't want to revert back to the slow upload speed problem you were having in the first place.

Re: I need help, with the internet!

Serenatous,

Please don't apologize. I'm just happy that we were collectively able to solve your issue. Might I suggest that you perform a full backup of your PC or at least enable System Restore in My Computer, Properties, System Restore, uncheck "disable system restore on all drives" then establish system restore on your drive(s).

I would hate to have the problem switch back and have to go through all this stuff again to fix it.

Re: I need help, with the internet!

Im currently in sweden.
My internet provider is, Com Hem.
I know that the download is 24mb, and the upload no idea, but i think its 1mb.
The modem's manufacturer is Scientific Atlanta, Model EPC 2203-NS.
Connection type is Broadband, Connection is wired.
Currently running a Vista 64bit.
I use Firefox, opera, and least of all i try to use internet explorer due to the lack of securtiy and majority of addaware and malware you can get from it...
And i am using my own machine the one i am having problems with.
