random BSOD minidump attached
Since two-three weeks I experience "randoms" BSOD.
I've a Dell D630 laptop with Vista SP1 Business Edition. here's the details of the chipset : Intel(R) GM965 Express Chipset Chipset Components Memory Controller: 82GM965 I/O Controller: Intel(R) 82801HBM/HEM I/O controller hub (ICH8M) SATA Controller found in IDE mode Integrated Graphics: Intel(R) 965GM Graphics And Memory Controller Hub(GMCH) I've upated drivers and BIOS. I've done a memory test two weeks ago and it comes clean. It was a new Windows XP laptop that I upagraded to Vista + SP1, so I don't knwo if BSOD occured on XP. The BSODs occur at different time in the day with different network/hardware configuration (home / work). I don't what to search ... I attached the minidump files. Matthieu |

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi tewmgd -. . . Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support! Good job getting those dump files but there are two other items that I would like, please - (1) A Belarc Advisor report saved in "mht" format (Top right of Internet Explorer screen; Page; Saved as; save as mht). You can download Belarc HERE; (2) A DXDiag report - START | type dxdiag into the Start Search box | right-click on dxdiag.exe | select Run as Administrator | respond to User Access Control prompt. Then save this report as a text file. Please refer to my PM as to the location to send these files to. Regards. . . jcgriff2

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi Matthieu - I am in the midst of your memory dump files and need another report, please. This one comes from a program within Vista: START | type msinfo32 into the start search box | right-click on msinfo32.exe | screen will come up - it needs to read system information Then save the report in System Information File (NFO) format by selecting File, then Save As - then please send to email. Regards. . . jcgriff2

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi Matthieu -' I have some results for you from your memory dumps: Code:
Mini040308-01.dmp 1:33:30 unknown driver Mini041008-01.dmp 9:07:24 msrpc.sys Mini041508-01.dmp 3:15:40 eclipse.exe Mini041508-02.dmp 5:41:00 inconclusive 26 drivers failed Mini041708-01.dmp 5:33:10 mozy.sys mozy+0x3840 Mini041708-02.dmp 8:39:08 LINQPad.exe - 0x8E_nt!ExDeferredFreePool+213 Mini041908-01.dmp 9:46:08 B* Mini042008-01.dmp 5:48:08 mozy+0x3840 Mini042308-01.dmp 11:35:44 eclipse.exe Mini042608-01.dmp 6:08:06 eclipse.exe Mini042708-01.dmp 12:57:42 javaw.exe 46 drivers failed Mini042808-01.dmp 12:03:22 B* Mini042808-02.dmp 9:54:06 win32k.sys Mini042908-01.dmp 8:03:34 NETIO.SYS The module msrpc.sys is a Microsoft Vista Kernel Remote Procedure Call Provider. The module msrpc.sys is a Microsoft Vista Kernel Remote Procedure Call Provider. netio.sys is the network subsystem driver from Microsoft. javaw.exe,by Sun Microsystems, Inc., and LinqPad is a sole executable by LINQPad. mozy.sys belongs to Mozy, Inc., American Fork, Utah, and is part of their Backup Solutions products. eclipse is from Eclipse Systems, Duraham, CT. There are definite software instability problem in this Vista SP1 system. The BSODs that occurred on 15 April 2008 and 27 April 2008 had massive driver failure associated with each of 27 and 46 modules respectively. There was no indication a faulting 3rd party non-Microsoft executable module associated with the former; however the latter failed under the Sun Microsystems Java program, but the reason is not clear. To allow the system to scan and repair itself, use the System File Checker: Go top an elevated command prompt and type: sfc /scannow it my run for hours. I would like to have you perform a chkdsk /r on the hard drive(s) as well as a memory test. I would suggest that you run the in-house Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. First - close all open windows and programs. Then click on START; type MdSched.exe in the Start Search box; right-click on MdSched.exe; select Run as Administrator; answer the UAC prompt; then select the option to re-start your system so that the program can run. After that, I recommend that you run a more comprehensive memory test using Memtest86+ found HERE. I know this will take many hours to complete. I would advise you to check the Event Viewer as well as the Device Manager for any yellow/red flags. I wish you the Best of Luck and please let me know if you have any questions. Regards. . . jcgriff (JC) .

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Thanks for your help.
Yes i just done some tests today : a memtest, a hard disk advanced test with a Hitachi boot utility CD and the two others : sfc /scannow and chkdisk /r. The sfc one find some file corrupted. I've also reinstalled some drivers and don't experienced a BSOD since them. I hope that the instability is going away ... Thanks again for your help and time :) Matthieu |

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
I had one crash yesterday morning and one this morning.
The two of them seem to be hardware ones (from the BSOD). It can be less mysterious than my other crash ? I've uploaded the dump files. |

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Good Morning.. .
Sorry to hear of another BSOD attack... I will pick up the dump files and see what we have. How any drivers and other programs were updated? I know you said the virtual drive was out - but how did you do that? Regards.. . . jcgriff2 .

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hello !
I've upated several days ago : graphic, wifi, audio drivers. I've spot one new service at the startup (the BSOD can after a start or wakeup ) : a service about CDBurnerPro, I've desactivated it to see. What's the "virtual drive" ? |

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi M -
Check he emails - it is the elusive G: device (?) and related software that has the ability to crash your system because it is not compatable with Vista. Their most recent update for it <2 months ago was for Systems up to and including XP - but not for Vista. Lecteur G: ELBY CLONEDRIVE SCSI Disque CdRom Device It has the French version Microsoft driver c:\windows\system32\drivers\cdrom.sys, 6.00.6001.18000, 1/18/2008 22:49:52, 67072 bytes, installed for it, but it is a virtual drive, so when systems services come through to check-it-out - they can't find it. The BSODs on this came back as "Device not found". Regards. . . jcgriff2 .

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi Matthieu -
Be sure to look at MSCONFIG - the startup and services tabs to make sure that the Elby program is not firing-up at boot - like mozy. Also, I know that LinqPad is a stand alone executable - so if you find yourself using that during a crash, that would be a suspect at that time only. Regards. . . jcgriff2 .

Re: random BSOD minidump attached
Hi Marklarian. . .
I doubt that Mozy is the cause of your BSOD since you are XP and Mozy has come out with a recent upgrade for XP - but not Vista. If you would kindly start a new thread in our XP forum and send me a PM with a link to it, I will glady do what I can to help. This thread is for tewmgd's system and the recommentdations contained herein pertain only to that user's system and shourld not be relied upon for the basis of BSOD corrective measures in yours. Regards. . . jcgriff2 .
