Will Not Sleep or Hibernate
Got a brand new Dell Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Basic, and it will not sleep or hibernate.
Instead of sleeping or hibernating like it's supposed to, it goes through the process like it's going to work, then immediately restarts Windows and says that Windows had a problem when shutting down and asks me if I want to boot in safe or normal mode. The thing is BRAND new. |

Re: Will Not Sleep or Hibernate
I initiate the hibernate or sleep manually via the start menu.
There is no specific error. The computer just acts like it's going to sleep/hibernate, never really does, but instead restarts immediately and sometimes brings me to the Select Startup screen (safemode or normal), but other times just starts Windows normally. |

Re: Will Not Sleep or Hibernate
do you notice anything running that may have prevented the laptop from going to sleep?
if not, try to manually put it to sleep again with no applications running. or you can just close the lid. either of which should initiate it to sleep. opening the lid would wake it up. i also read somewhere that if the laptop supports it, it can wake up if it receives some signal from the network (Wake on LAN). with that may be you can try removing the network cable before putting it to sleep or turning this OFF in bios settings. try these first and see what happens.
