Internet and Start-up

Hi, I've been having 2 major issues with my vista lately.
1. I started to notice it when every time i needed to reboot my computer, it would always crash several times when it got to the log-in screen before it works. I'm pretty sure this is not a harware malfunction, but I could be wrong.
2. I cannot connect to the internet! All of the other devices hooked up to my network can use the internet as normal, but my pc won't even recognize my network with internet. It realizes that it is connected to a network , but it says it is an unrecognized one. The funny thing is, it won't see my router or other computer, but it will see my xbox 360 when it turns on.
Can anyone help me?

Re: Internet and Start-up

Hi Xero_dity, welcome to TSF..

could you please provide more info on the crashes please such as error number etc?

With regards to the internet issue, what firewall are you using? Are you able to ping outside of your network?

Re: Internet and Start-up

Use CCleaner and minimise your start up entries. You can also use autoruns to check for startup entries. Remove all invalid entries.

Well, it usually doesn't even give me a blue screen when it crashes, it just decides to reboot again.

With the internet issue, I'm only using windows firewall. But Sometimes windows decides to alert me of stuff that has decided to stop working, like "host process for windows services" and "layer gateway access". And how would I go about pinging outside of my network?

Re: Internet and Start-up

sorry it was "application layer gateway service", not "layer gateway access"
