BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
I posted a HI JACK log of my labtop a month ago at the HI HACK forums. I haven't had any help, so I figured to post it here as well.
Like I said, my new labtop is running strangely slow. It takes about 15 minutes just to load up the lab top. Is not normal at all. Can someone help me? |

Re: BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
Hello O.E
If its taking along time to do anything, I would start cleaning out your system bit by bit First of 1. Click Start\Computer 2. On local disk right click and select properties 3. Select disk cleanup 4. After it loads select All the check boxs and select OK,confirm delete 5. Select More options tab 6. Under system restore and shadow copies, select cleanup *This will delete all the backups except the most recent, this can free up alot of your disk space speeding up your system Once down, to speed up your startup 1. Go to Start\Run 2. Type: msconfig.msc 3. Under the startup tab uncheck anything that isnt a main system process and anything you really dont need on startup ![]() 4. Click apply,ok and exit without restart To speed up your shutdowns 1. Go to Start\Run 2. Type:Regedit 3. Follow the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control 4. On the right side pane, find and double click WaitToKillServiceTimeout 5. Change the value to 5000 *Thats 5 seconds before it processes the command to switch off the computer regards Craig

Re: BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
Okay, I had to Restart the labtop. Start from Factory. Although, it is still running slow. I would like to try this again. Did I do something wrong?
Anyhow, and please explain how to run REGEDIT and such when I don't see a Run button anymore in Vista. I typed it under SEARCH but nothing came up... |

Re: BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
I think you have had a virus in your PC.
Reinstall everything Bit by Bit making sure that all the software your putting into your PC is virus free......... The process listed above would NOT effect your computer in such a way. Ok now 1. open start menu 2. right click and select properties. A window should open. 3. Under the start menu tab select customize, Another window should open. 4. Scroll down until you find the run command and check the box. 5. Select ok and ok again 6. Run should now be in your start menu ![]() I apologise about your computer Regards Craig

Re: BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
Okay Thanks. I did MSCONFIG and REGEDIT just fine.
Now, I want to work on the cleaning process. What did I do wrong last time? I didn't click on SHADOW COPIES before cleaning it the first time. Was that the reason why I lost everything? I don't think it was a virus. I already ran it through the HI JACK department and they didn't find any foul malware. Like I said, is a brand new lab top. Heck, I just did a factory reset like I said before, and it is still running beyond slow! Something is up! Can you explain the Cleaning Process again? Thanks! |

Re: BRAND NEW Windows Vista Labtop Running very slow....HELP
No a system with Vista requires 2GB, you were sold a system with Vista with 1GB which is bare minimum. Upgrade your ram, use readyboost in the meantime. Update windows.
