Internet explorer crashes
I have a HP laptop with Windows Vista Home premium OS. I am facing a problem with Internet explorer. The explorer crashes when I click the close button on the top right corner of the window. It displays a dialog box saying "the explorer has stopped working". After a few seconds the message changes to "internet explorer is restarting" and a new window opens.
Does anybody has a solution for this issue?? |

Re: Internet explorer crashes
If you get the message:
Windows Explorer has stopped working Windows Explorer is restarting You could try these steps 1) First and foremost ensure that your Vista is updated and scan your computer for virus and spyware. Follow it up with a Registry Cleaner run. CCleaner is a good freeware. 2) Run ChkDsk using elevated command prompt * right click on command promt and select "run as administrator" 3) Disable the Preview Pane in Explorer and see if it helps. To disable the Preview Pane, click Organize > Layout > Preview Pane. 5) Disable UAC and see if it helps. start\control panel\user accounts and family settings\user accounts\turn UAC on or off *requires a restart 6) Disable DEP or NoExecute Protection. Do note that Data Execution Prevention is a set of hardware and software technologies that perform additional checks on memory to help prevent malicious code from running on a system; as such it is a security feature.. Type cmd in Vista's search bar. Rt click on search results 'cmd' and click on Run as Administrator. Then type bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff and hit enter. Reboot. This has been known to help in some earlier versions of Vista. 7) Open Explorer. Click Organize > Folder & Search Options > View > Advanced Settings > check 'Launch folder windows in a separate process' > Apply > OK. Please repost if all the options have been exhausted or if one of the procedures have rectified the issues,as to help people with similar issues |
