Hi hsaj. . .

Welcome to the Tech Support Forum - Vista Support!

If you would like to dive down into your system and look for some minidumps, I may be able to help you with a possible solution to your system's two day BSOD binge.

Each time a BSOD appears it [should] leaves a memory dump behind that I can run through a debugger and hopefully give you information related to the most probable cause. So... please get those dumps, copy them to your desktop via Windows Explorer. Once on your desktop, you can zip them all and attach a single zip file to your next post (preferred). If zipping them is not an option for you, then upload the individual dump files and attach to an email and send it to "TSFjcgriff2*at*hotmail.com".

The files should be located in c:\windows\minidump\ and will be named similar to "Mini031708-01.dmp". Get them all - regardless of the number.

Regards. . .

Hi again hsaj. . .

Apologies. . . I posted too soon. I didn't notice that your post included an attachment full of minidump files - and in a zip file no less. Thank You!

One item that I would like is a Belarc Advisor report saved in mht format (Top right of IE7 screen; Page; Saved as; save as mht). The attach to the next post. You can download Belarc HERE. However, before attaching to your post please be sure to delete the information that contains your product key codes located about ½way down the report. This will assist me during my debugging process.

Thanks. . .

Hi again. . .

Wow... You have been busy!

I just wanted to let you know that I have picked up the additional files and will process them as well. I expect to have some results for you by tomorrow.

Should anything else come up before then, please let me know.

Re: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (part 2?) =)

Hi again hsaj. . .

Well, since I last posted, this case sure got busier for me!

The hotfix, KB947382, appears to deal with system crashes when coming out of sleep or hibernation. Are you having such issues? If not, I would hold off for now until more memory dump results come in. Thus far, the dumps are pointing to a variety of probable causes ranging from drivers to a hardware issue with RAM. It is quite odd. There are a few now-outstanding issues:

Also are you aware that your hard drive disk space is at or below a critical level? I quote from your Belarc report:

Code:

c: (NTFS on drive 0) 29.99 GB 6.22 GB free
d: (NTFS on drive 2) 41.94 GB 3.77 GB free
e: (NTFS on drive 2) 40.40 GB 5.53 GB free
g: (NTFS on drive 1) 41.94 GB 3.55 GB free
Knowing that drive c: is the system drive, that leaves 6.22GB, or a deceptive 20.7% space remaining. Given this, it is possible and even likely that Windows Updates or an installed program's updates have not processed due to lack of temporary storage space. Such space is a percentage of allocated space. Furthermore, System Restore may not be functioning to its capacity or maybe dropping restore points off in attempt to make room for new ones. I would strongly advise that you go through the four hard drives/partitions and delete all unnecessary files. Also un-install all programs that you no longer use. Move as many files as possible from drive c: out to the others - not including the Windows, Program Files or ProgramData folders. Then run a defrag on all drives.

Another report that will help me is a DxDIAG report. Click on START, type dxdiag.exe into the Start Search box, right-click on dxdiag.exe, select Run as Administrator, and a screen should appear. Look down toward the bottom right of your screen. There will be a "Save all Information" tab. Click on that, save the report then upload it to your next post as well.

In addition, I would like for you to run the Vista Memory Diagnostic Tool. I'd either like to include or exclude the one dump that pointed directly to a memory hardware problem. Click on START; type mdsched into the Start Search box; right-click on mdsched.exe; the Memory diagnostic Tool will come up; select either option; let it run. I may take hours - so be prepared. Post results. Did the system come stock with 1536MB of RAM? It is configured as 1024MB + 512MB. Are they both the same manufacturer and type?

I see that your system appears to be from 2006. Was this then an upgrade from XP to Vista?

At this point, I would like to wait for the additional information before commenting further. There are just too many unanswered questions at this time.

Thanks. . .

jcgriff2

Re: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (part 2?) =)

sigh

I dont have the hang-hiberation thing..it's just BSOD

I have done a Vista Memory Diag test - no errors found.

Yes i did upgrade from XP to VISTA.
RAM was at 512..i added the extra 1 gig and it is the same manufacturer.

i wont have the chance to defrag..BSOD will invite itself in...will try thou.

also attached is the dxdiag report.

Greetings. . .

Good to hear of the progress thus far. I successfully downloaded the DxDIAG report - Thank You. I believe the information contained within will aid me in your BSOD investigation. Don't be too concerned with the defrag right now if it is not possible. Were you able to make additional room on drive c:?

Regards. . .

Hi. . .

Per your message, you now have 6.7GB free on c:. Let's try to increase that by using CCleaner, which you can download HERE.

CCleaner will delete many things, so pick and choose the options carefully. Some items to consider are - cookies, Internet files, forms, etc... Also, let's delete the existing memory dumps as they are on file here. Here is a screen shot of what I would recommend:

THUMBNAIL

Any ? - you know where to reach me!
