4 some reason i have an extra 2 folders of documents,pictures,videos and music folders and i comes up in my taskbar and i cant delete any of them cause if i do they all get deleted i h8 vista can any 1 help fix this really annying problem cause the only other solution i can think of is to reformat my computer (sigh) and i really dont want to do that i have windoes vista home premium 32bit ty any help would be apreciated

What can happen if you just upgraded or copyed you old documents form you old computer is Windows vista has moved out of the document the music, video and pictures. Into there own folder, if this is the case you can not delete the folders you just need to move your folders that our inside the documents to the new folders!

In that theory yes now normally if you upgrade then duplicates are created and can be deleted but caution must be excerised here,you can only delete the ones that are NOT created by vista otherwise you then break the folder links and could possibly make matters worse

1. For each shortcut or folder that has a duplicate, click the shortcut or the folder in the Start menu.
2. If the shortcut or the folder starts the correct program or opens the correct folder, you can delete the other duplicate shortcut or duplicate folder.
3. If the shortcut or the folder does not start the correct program or open the correct folder, you can delete the current shortcut or the current folder.

well there not shortcuts and i didnt upgrade it came with my new comp and if i delect it they all get deleted and all of the folders are in my taskbar and there are like heaps of em soo yerr any suggestions

Ok thats weird lol

Now i'm concerned that they might be shared folders and may be stored in different areas of the hard drive. To determine this please follow

1. On start Menu right click each folder and confirm the location of each folder i.e C:\Users\Username (Should be as follows in picture but with your user name,If not delete the ones NOT in the folder)





2. Make sure that each folder isn't being shared (This can create a new folder for every user including sdministrator and system)





Please post the results

Just to point out. You are missing two other folders here as well Downloads and Links.
it is possible that only the icons are incorrect for two of the "extra" Pictures folders and they are really the missing two.

Ok i looked and its the same not shared and all three are called

C:/Users/PhatsterMan

All three of them are all the same the screen shot didnt work ok?? help??

And i think the reason that it did it is that i moved the pictures from C:/Users/Phatsterman to
C:/Users/Phatsterman/Documents and then i moved it back and there were 3 of them?? does this help??

hey placehold i have a different problem but similar i would like u to help me , any time i create a new folder in "documents" if i called it music it duplicates it, its hard to explain but im gonna post an image so u understand what i am saying....i appreciate your help, thx.

Have you tried simply deleting the duplicated version of the folder?

This happens when you create a folder that already exists

i.e If you try to create a folder called "Placehold" a duplicate should not be created as there is no system file sharing the same name

if you create a folder called "Music" a duplicate may appear as you have therefore edited a system file and the system doesn't understand that it may be located somewhere else in the system and rectifies the conflict with folder redirection and creates a new version of the folder with the correct locations

Unfortunatley this is an ongoing issue with vista at the moment and no fix has been confirmed as of yet. A clean install may rectify the issue however it is slightly extreme instead try to restore your system back to a point before the issue began
