[SOLVED] transfer files from old to new computer
My problem is most likely a common one. I recently bought a new computer and wanted to copy files and pictures onto my new computer from my old one. However, the DVD RW Rom device doesn't read the files, only lists an option for me to add and burn files onto the already closed disc despite having acknowledged that there has been space used up on the disc.
I have tried looking up similar problems but most solutions I have found regard the drive itself not appearing or the problem listed above, nothing specific to what I am having troubles with and do not wish to play around with settings that might cause this PC to become unstable. I don't know if editing the registry would work, I doubt it. I've tried disabling the auto run feature, but it doesn't correct the problem. I'm at a loss at this point and would love to receive any help that can be offered. System Info: Compaq built by Hewlit Packard Windows Vista Home Premium AMD Athlon Processor LE-1620 @ 2.4 GHz 894MB RAM 32-Bit OS the drive in question is a TSST Corp. CDDVDW TS-H653N CD Rom Device. Again, thank you for any help in advance. |

Re: transfer files from old to new computer
Or buy a Belkin Vista Migration cable. One end goes in the USB on XP machine and the Other on the vista usb. It comes with the required software. Takes along time.

Re: transfer files from old to new computer
I would love to be able to get the cable and such to do so, however, purchacing the new PC put me in the red for a bit. But I was able to find a simple solution that, give or take can solve the problem. I just burned a small text file onto the disc and after that, it was able to read everything. A rather weird, but effective means. It just means I have to do that to 100+ CDRs now. lol
All the help is appreciated. Much thanks for your prompt replies. ![]() ![]() |
