viewpoint manager
In the control panel, there is an icon for Viewpoint Manager that i cannot get rid of. If i try to open it, it says application not found. Searching my computer comes up with no results.
Any suggestions as to how to get rid of this icon? I have searched for information on it, but i can find nothing for Vista. There was recently (almost two months ago) a thread with the exact same problem but it was left unresolved. |

Re: viewpoint manager
Look in Programs and Features for anything that says Viewpoint.
Uninstall if found. Next, go to C:\Program Files\ and delete the folder --> Viewpoint Manager

Re: viewpoint manager
try doing both again if they're still showing up in add/remove, then try clearing the prefetch by going to c:\windows\ and removing or renaming prefetch. Once you've done that, i would open regedit and search for anything named viewpoint, it'll still be in hklm\software for sure, but could be other places. Once you've checked all of that, and it's still there, make sure it's not in an addon on internet explorer and then restart. It should be gone then. If not, just let me know and I'll see what else I can tell you

Re: viewpoint manager
Hello,
This is very unusual. We’ll need to delete a registry key. Click on the Start button and select "Run…" Once the Run window is open, type in “regedit” and press enter. Navigate to the following directory: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ControlPanel\NameSpace Delete the following sub key only: {D5407412-467F-45cd-8594-37DA29512BF6} This should remove the View Manager icon from the Control Panel. ***The above technique is only used to remove the Viewpoint Manager icon from the Control Panel, not from Add/Remove Programs. *** *** Also, do not delete anything other than the above sub key or your machine could become corrupted. *** Please let me know if this works for you. |

Re: viewpoint manager
If you have AOL installed or Instant Messenger (AIM).... prevent Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player from being recreated every time you run the AOL software:
Open AOL Go to Help on the toolbar Select About AOL Hit Ctrl D and a secret panel can be accessed which will allow you to disable all desktop and IM features associated with Viewpoint. Another way to prevent Viewpoint from being recreated every time you run the AOL software is: Click C:\Program Files\AOL 9.0\Jiti (a hidden folder). Rename viewpoint.exe to viewpoint.old. Also look in Services for Viewpoint Manager Service - Viewpoint Corporation Click 'properties' and disable it.

Re: viewpoint manager
Also, It is important to remember that WHENEVER you make changes to the registry, make a backup copy first. To do this follow these steps.
1. Open Regedit. 2. Scroll all the way to the top of the registry tree and click on my computer so that it is highlighted. 3. Right-click on the my computer icon in the registry tree and select export. 4. An Export Registry File dialog box will appear. Give the file a name, save it to the desktop so that it will be easy to find if you need to restore it. Make sure you select the "All" option at the bottom where it says Export Range. 4a. If you need to restore the contents of the registry, just doubleclick the registry export file and it will restore the registry to the state it was in before you made any changes. Another alternative is to use system restore, but personally I think this is faster.
