Vista freezes after random mouse crash

I have had a recurring problem of windows freezing (and inevitably having to kill it by hitting the power button) after my mouse randomly stops working. It only happened once in a while but recently it has occurred 3 times in one week! I am running vista home premium and a logitech wireless mouse on a DELL 1521 Inspiron notebook. Here is how this freeze/crash happens:

I believe it usually happens when I have Firefox open. I am using my mouse and all of the sudden it doesn't move anymore but the touch pad works just fine. I try to open up something else and I can't. I try opening up the task manager to check there to see if something is wrong. It doesn't do anything. Soon I find that I can't do anything except move my cursor with the touch pad. So I kill the system by hitting the power switch and then when I load it back up I play the lottery and wait to see if I get the blue screen of death or not. Sometimes I'll get one but lately I haven't been. If anyone has any ideas or maybe has had a similar problem please let me know cause I am stumped.

Thanks

Re: Vista freezes after random mouse crash

It seems that there is a power setting that is killing your usb devices. Search through device manager and look for power options for usb, along with checking control panel>power options>create power profile and select what you need. Good luck!
