Random Blue Screen
Hi, my brother has recently started getting these blue screens of death yesterday. He is on Vista Business 32 bit.
Yesterday i think he got 3 blue screens, i have the dmp logs attached. They are already in .txt format because ive seen in another thread that it's how you all would like them. Let me know if you would like the .dmp file. They just started yesterday and im not too sure why. He's never gotten them before Now one thing is...and ive told him to stop...he downloads whatever he wants. So, he may have some sort of virus, i dont think this could cause it. ![]() His specs: Athlon 64 X2 4000 ASUS M2N-X 2GB Patriot DDR2-800 250GB SATA2 HDD Im pretty sure it's not RAM or heat related. He has never had any problems like this in the past...i cant think of anything else of importance. Let me know if you want any other info. Thanks for any help! ![]() |

Re: Random Blue Screen
Hi Jesee2200 -
Welcome to TSF and your own thread! Seriously though, thanks for starting your own thread so now everything that transpires within here pertains to your system problems. I'll take a look at the memory dumps for you but I'd like you to do one or two things in the meantime, OK? Please run and post a systeminfo report - go to a command prompt and type systeminfo. Was any hardware or software added or modified during the weeks leading up to the BSOD? Thanks for your help and I hope to have something in a day or two for you. Should I fail to respond, send a PM anytime - even to check status if you want to. regards. . . JC

Re: Random Blue Screen
Alright, i attached the systeinfo in a txt file.
And like i said...my brother could possibly have a virus on his computer. I mean i got him Avira AV, and ive run free online scans from Bitdefender and NOD32. But he like downloading things... Thank you for the reply. And i am very happy to be posting in my thread! |

Re: Random Blue Screen
Hi Jessee2200 -
Here are the results from your minidumps with foot-noted analysis: Minidump/Date - Fault Mini022608-01 - ElbyCDIO.sys ¹ Mini022608-02 - ntkrnlpa.exe ² Mini022608-03 - ntkrnlpa.exe ² _____________________________________ ¹ ElbyCDIO.sys is a Windows NT platform (2000/XP/) systems driver for ElbyCD a component of CDrtools open-source, Berlin, Germany. ² ntkrnlpa.exe is a Microsoft Windows driver and is associated with the Windows NT kernel. In this case the Vista registry may have become corrupted by the removal of a CD/DVD/USB device without benefit of the use of the "safely remove hardware" feature. . To remedy this problem, I would start by uninstalling ElbyCD first using the Windows program installer, then using CCleaner to check for remnants and uninstall, if necessary. The link is below. Then you should check the Device Manager for any red or yellow signs, specifically the DVD. OK, Jessee - since this is Vista and you now know that your brother's downloads can do damage, my advice is to set him up with a standard-user account where your admin password would be required to get by the Universal Access Control (UAC) in order to download or install a program. I don't know how old he is, but tell him this is not punishment but merely a way to ensure the stability of the system for his use in the future. The standard user account will allow him to surf the net without problems. I do this at home with various Vista systems that the kiddies use. Rarely does a circumstance present itself where the admin password is needed for the UAC prompt. For example, if a website wants a flash player installed, tell him to then try the same site under the Firefox Internet browser as opposed to Internet Explorer v7. This has worked here on numerous occasions. After appling the above steps, should a BSOD present itself again with the same error information, you will have to use you Vista recovery DVD(s) or the recovery partition, if so equipped, to repair the driver. Be sure that you have your Vista product key code secured. OK?? Good Luck to you and your brother. regards. . . JC CCleaner download - Download, install, execute program, select "Tools" on left side. A list of your systems programs should appear. .
