microphone Monitor

My daughter wants to sing along to songs on the PC.

It works on my XP pc but I can't hear the Mic through my speakers on my Vista PC.

Sound recorder records it fine and voice recognition works.

How do I get the mic to play straight out through the speakers?

I am just using my on board HD audio of my MOBO.

I also want sound recorder to record the songs playing in windows Media Player - Is this possible other than looping the line-out back into the line-in which works other than the levels being difficult to sort out.

I also have the same problem im using vista x86 ultimate with onboard soundcard ....anyone know how to fix this problem ??
