Vista hard drive boot problems
Hi all! Hope someone can help...
I have a triple boot xp/vista/ubuntu machine which up until recently has worked beautifully. I use vista for work purposes, xp for gaming, linux for fun/development. My problem is that when going into Vista, chkdsk complains about one of my partitions and starts a scan, doesnt find anything and then boots vista normally. The problem is the partition in question is no longer accessible...get an error saying file or directory corrupt. When I then boot into XP, chkdsk launches on that too, goes through fine and boots into XP, and I have access to the drive again. Subsequent boots of XP will not start chkdsk, but as soon as I go back into Vista, chkdsk starts again and I can't access the drive. Have tried running chkdsk e: /R in XP and Vista and the XP tool finds no errors, the Vista tool won't complete - gets to verifying file data (stage 4 of 5) and seems to stop. (Left it for 2 hours no progression). Had various boot cds with different hard disk tools on and everything I run on the drive comes back with a clean bill of health. Any ideas? |
