OS: Win Vista Ultimate 64-Bit

Confused Extremly poor performance

Hi, recently my computers motherboard fried (after 2 years of having it) So i thought, bout time i updated so i ordered the following parts:

EVGA e-GeForce 8600 GTS 512MB PCI-E, DVI Video Graphics Card

OCZ 1GB Gold Edition Memory DDR3 1066MHz PC3-8500 CL 7-7-7-21 Dual Channel Gold Layered Z3 XTC Heatspreader

Intel CPU Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W Energy Efficient 2.4GHz SLACR G0 Stepping

Asus Motherboard P5K3 Deluxe WiFi Intel P35 LGA775 Core2 Quad / Core2 Extreme / Core2 Duo PCI-E DDR3 Pure Copper Heat Pipe & Stack ATX (DDR3 Only)

And installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and i am experiancing very very poor performance, it strugles sometimes to even have IE open let alone a game which i am deeply into. On my old pc was a OEM version of XP SP2 home and it could run fine lots of processes, games and music all at once but vista jsut doesnt seem right.

Ive turned off all the aero glass and such and set the system to performance over looking pritty because i dont care really what it looks like as along as i can use my programes.

Screenshot: Task Mgr:

ScreenShot: services:

Now i know 1gig of Ram aint that much but ive used vista pc's with the same amount of ram with lower amount of cpu/motherboard/gfx capabilitys run alot smother with aeroglass on.

I know from the screenshots that it doesnt look to bad but thats under vertualy no load, mostly backgrnd programes. Alot of the time the HDD are at 100/sec Utilization (which from what i gather is the max) Going back to xp is looking like it will happen if the performance continues.

If someone can help to get vista working nicely without spending out more cash which i dont have much left of at the moment please post.

Also if im missing any info please post and ill do me best to get it.

Re: Extremly poor performance

My wife has a pc just about the same spec's as yours but for her videocard is a 7600 and she's running DDR2 800mhz (2gig) and vista32bit
It runs very smooth.

the only thing I can think of is have you updated all the drivers for the motherboard?
is there any other hardware installed?

can you run the Performance Information tool to see what your base score is

you can get to it by right clicking on "My Computer" then click on Windows Experience Index (there should be a number beside it) then click on Update my score
