Scandisk stopped

Hi, i'm a new member of this forum. Right now i'm having a serious problem. When i do the scandisk, it stopped running or stalling after 2% completion.
My OS is windows vista. I've tried many ways to try to solve it but it's still the same. Guys, if you know how to solve this problem, please help me.

Re: Scandisk stopped

Okay, not enough info, we definately need more info. Tell us about your computer model, type, everything you can about (ram, processor, hdd space, etc.) Also, WHY are you doing the scandisk? If your computer stops at 2% it could very well indicate (another question btw, are you having problems BOOTING windows at all?) that your drive has been damaged and more importantly sector ONE of your drive, which is your boot sector and you can't fix that and if it's damaged then you would require a new hard drive. When did you buy this, is it new or old, how much to you use it, have you had any accidents from it. A note for proper care of a laptop (or any computer) would be not to tilt and turn it while it is running, keep it on a level surface. A Hard disk has several physical disks in it with less space than a human hair between them and they're very easy to scratch and damage, especially when tilted while running. It sounds to me that it's damamged.

However, the scandisk itself should be able to tell you this, which could also lean more to the fact that you might be running on a corrupted OS, try reinstalling it if it's not working. also, try running CHKDSK /f (or something like that) in MS DOS if you can get to it and see what it says.

To be honest, i could sprout out ideas all night long and it not help you a bit, i'm afraid that mostly you'll need to give us lots more info before we can solve your problem from here.

Good luck!

God Bless and In Him,

Eric

Re: Scandisk stopped

Hi,
my laptop is compaq presario v3000,vista,1gb ram, abt 150 gb hard disk, 1.8GHz intel duo core processor. I bought it a few months ago, and i'm still using it right now. everything's seem fine, i just do the scandisk once in a while to make sure that my disk is free of error. i also do defragmentation b4 scandisk. Recently i've just installed ad-adware and some registry cleaner, is it good to have them? Btw, how did u do the chkdisk? I dont think i have the chkdisk. and how to do the scandisk in DOS mode?
Your help is really needed,
Thanks

Re: Scandisk stopped

dai: i don't know now, about scandisk no longer being on XP+ OS's. I can use chkdsk on vista, but turn right abound in the BIOS and use scandisk too. (just a bit of info clarification, not really an argumentative standpoint, lol).

God Bless and In Him,

Eric
