Slow login
Just got a refurbished Dell Inspiron 1721 with Vista Home Premium:
-AMD TK-55 Dual Core 1.8ghz -Upgraded to 4gb pc2-5300 RAM -120gb HDD First thing I did was format the hard drive and install Vista from a clean slate to rid the junk Dell puts on it. I did a bit of time testing when I upgraded memory and realized it takes about 50 seconds to load Windows and ready to roll (from the sign on screen) It takes about 90 seconds from OFF. My desktop: Vista Home Premium -AMD Dual Core 2.6ghz -Upgraded to 3gb pc2-6400 RAM -320gb HDD Only takes 15 seconds from sign on screen to be ready to roll. Now... once I'm in Windows and it loads up, (I think) it performs as it should. It takes about 15 seconds to load Photoshop for the first time its been turned on, and about 10-12 seconds every time after that... I'm freaking out that it takes so much longer to load Windows. If that is normal on a laptop to take quite a bit longer to load Windows- no biggie, I can deal with it. I just dont want this to be an issue that can cause problems down the road. Any thoughts? |

Re: Slow login
I went to my parents house and tested their 1521, which has the same speed memory and same processor. It loaded in about 13 seconds. That got me worried...
I then took my 1721, re-re-formatted the hard drive, and re-installed Vista once again. Now it loads in 10 seconds. The question I have now is- what could have caused this??? Is it possible the first time I re-installed Vista something didn't install correctly? This is frustrating, any brainy people please do advise. Thanks |
