System locking up in games
So here's the deal.
I've basically rebuilt my entire gaming machine and I'm still having system lockups with games under windows vista. Here's what I've done so far: 1.Replaced MB with a different make/model went from socket 939 ASRock Dual Sata II-->Bioforce sckt 939 MB. 2.Replaced 430 watt ThermalTake PS with a 650 watt Antec True Power. 3.Exchanged EVGA 8800GTS 320mb (the installation of which seemed to cause the initial problem) for a Radeon 1950 Pro. The 1950Pro worked fine (though a bit choppy) but I wanted DX10 so I returned that and got a Saphire 2900pro 512mb and the freezeups returned. The following parts I retained a still use (they carried over from the previous system) Processor AMD 4400+ 2gigs (4x512) Corsair RAM 2x Western Digital 120GB HDDs (IDE) the RAM passed both the windows memory diagnostic and memtest86 the hard drives have not been tested yet, but I've had no issues with other programs (DVD/CD playback, burning, Open office, etc.) I really am at a loss, the issues all seemed to start when I installed the 8800GTS and the driver package that Bioshock recommended. The Nvidia drivers have been uninstalled with nvidia's uninstall program and Driver Cleaner. What do you think? Reinstall Vista from scratch? I really want this machine up and running when Crysis comes out, not to mention playing Bioshock all the way through with DX10 support. I could reinstall XP but that is an absolute LAST RESORT because I bought a DX10 card and I would like to use it. this is happening in Bioshock and quake wars also the game Dirt, runs like well, dirt ![]() EDIT: just to clarify I DID reinstall Vista when I replaced the MB. sorry if this needs to be moved I'm new -getme Last edited by getme : 10-09-2007 at 11:28 AM. |
