Can't install anything downloaded from IE and other problems
Hey people,
I got a new computer last week with Vista on it already, and I have to say it's been non-stop hell since I got it. There is so much wrong with this PC I don't even know where to start. Just hoping you guys could help me sort some things out. Firstly, any program I download through IE7 will not install. All I get when I lauch the .exe is "filenamehere.exe has stopped working". I managed to get Firefox on the PC by transfering the program files for it from my old laptop to this PC, which solved the problem... sort of. Now, everything I download, well, almost everything I download is corrupt. iTunes setup won't launch at all, I double click the setup file and nothing happens, at all. Zip files are almost always corrupt, and I have no idea why. I've tryed using a download accelerator / manager, and that didn't solve the problem. I seriously wish I could just have XP back, but I can't so I really need to solve these problems before I throw this PC into a nuclear reactor. Thanks guys. |

Re: Can't install anything downloaded from IE and other problems
There could be a lot of problems. In Vista, when you try to run a program that gives you that error, it usually means that it is not compatible. You could try to use the Program Compatibility Wizard or verify that the program is Vista compatible.
Where did you get the PC? Was anti-virus pre-installed? Just copying the contents of the Program Files folder won't install Firefox (or any program) because the registry must updated as well. If you haven't already done so, run a spyware and antivirus scan. Please list your system specs and more errors that you are receiving. |

Re: Can't install anything downloaded from IE and other problems
Thanks for the reply. Here are my system specs:
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_gdr.070627-1500) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: DIXONSXP System Model: MS-7357 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E6750 @ 2.66GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.7GHz Memory: 2046MB RAM Page File: 1125MB used, 3190MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 10 DX Setup Parameters: Not found DxDiag Version: 6.00.6000.16386 32bit Unicode ----------- Virus scan detected no threats. Error messages differ depending on file type. Corrupt .rar files will stop half way through extraction and tell me the volume is corrupt and it cannot continue. .exe files stop during installation saying something is missing or corrupt. The principal of all the error messages is the same. Thanks for any help guys. |
