Its an intermitent problem.Sometimes when I start Vista,My control panel is empty,I cant get into system properties, and maybe a few other things control panel related.sometimes when I restart,it works again, sometimes it takes 3 or 4 restarts to get it to work.I tried doing a fresh install, formatting my hard drive first, but it still does this. Re: vanishing contrl panel:/
Hi KIDhl2
Some issues have been found that cause Vista's "Software Licensing Service" to stop, which has the effect of making the Control Panel unavailable, among other things. To test if this is the case, right-click your taskbar, and start Task Manager. Select the action-button "show processes from all users" - when the User Account Control option box appears, select "Continue" --- if the Software Licensing service is running, you'll see SLsvc.exe in the process list. If it's not, you can try starting it: right-click on "Computer", and select "Manage", then "Continue", then "Services & Applications", then "Services" -- right-click the Software Licensing service, choose "Properties", and set the service to "Automatic", and click "Start". Back when Vista was still in pre-release, some versions of Norton, some graphics drivers, and an earlier problem with Windows Automatic Updates were known to cause the SLsvc to stop. Many of these problems have been fixed by updated software/drivers/components. For example, trouble with some nVidia chipset and graphics drivers was resolved by using more recent versions. You can check in your Event Viewer logs for clues as to which modules are having difficulties (in the Administrative Tools in Control Panel -- also accessible from the Management console [Computer/Manage]). Best of luck . . . Gary
