OS: Windows Vista Home Premium 32 bit
|
I'd like my pc to be a bit faster, like when loading software, shutting down and starting up and playing some online games. Apart from putting in some more ram and upgrading the computer, is there any settings that you can toggle about with to make the general speed of the computer faster? right now I'm using an Intel Pentium D 3ghz processor and have 1024MB RAM but it feels like a 512MB. I think that this might have something to do with Windows Vista OS and they might be slower because of the Windows Aero. Sorry if I put this in the wrong place.

If you're using the Aero theme, it will take up a lot of your ram, the main thing you could do would be to disable the aero theme and that might help a little. Also make sure you don't have any programs running that you don't need in the background. If you're using bulky anti-virus, that would be eating up a lot of your ram (Panda has a habit of doing that in my experience, not sure about new version though). If you do have a heavy anti-virus, you should check out Nod32 as it's pretty reliable and lightweight. For doing basic things on Vista Home Premium, I'm normally using between 700-1200mb of RAM so even going up to 2GB would help a lot (I'm running 4GB and I've never noticed my RAM go above 40%, its actually only at 24% at the moment) Last edited by ian69 : 09-02-2007 at 10:00 AM. |
