Incorrect DMA mode in vista

Hi, i'm using sata2 seagate drives and vista and there stuck on mode 5 aka ATA/100 when they should be on mode 6 ATA/133. Is there a hotfix for this?

I have installed all the relevent drivers and updates, XP is properly detecting them and using mode 6 so why isnt vista?

Hi Shocky, welcome to TSF...

Does you motherboard support DMA mode 6?

Well I would guess so as it works in XP, would be strange to have a motherboard that supports SATA2 but not ATA/133.

EDIT: Actually, after booting up XP it's neither so is ATA/100 normal in vista for a SATA2 HD? Doesnt seem right as the last time I used a ATA/100 drive was about 5 years ago.

Re: Incorrect DMA mode in vista

Ok, after further reading of my manual and random google sources I need to enable AHCI for full SATA2 and NCQ support which apparently needs a driver on windows install which probably means I might have to format the drives which I really don't want to do.

So, does vista need drivers on install? and would I lose data on drives if I just change it to AHCI?

Re: Incorrect DMA mode in vista

Interesting, even with AHCI enabled it's still ATA/100.
