WMP 11 + Vista = problems
I have a system which I upgraded from Media Center 2005 to Vista Home Premium. I'm quite happy with it, but there is one thing that is bothering me. I use this system as a media center server, and I had ripped about 90 CDs worth of music from my collection to the system. Previously when the system was XP (running WMP10) I was able to let WMP name and organize my files, but it seems like lately when I add CDs, they all go to the rip directory and are named properly but they never get copied to the individual library directories like I like.
What I've ended up with is one directory that has over 100 songs in it, and another 60 or so directories of artist names, each of which has album name directories inside. With WMP10, I could select "Apply Media Information Changes" and it would speedily create directories and move files to keep everything all organized. Now when I click on that, it just sits there doing nothing. The progress window pops up, saying 0% complete, and just stays that way. There is no hard drive activity, the application isn't hung up, it just doesn't proceed. If I uncheck "Retrieve additional information from the Internet" in Library options, then the process of applying media information changes will complete with no problems. However, it still doesn't use the ID3 information that each file has to move and reorganize the files. I tried deleting all of the WMP cache files from /users/myname/appdata/local/microsoft/media player (the files have *.wmdb extension), which is the only advice I could find on this subject. It recreated all of those files but still won't reorganize my files. Anybody have this problem or hear of any fixes? I don't want to reinstall, I have too much invested in the current setup and don't want to have to recreate it from scratch. This is the only thing that isn't working, so I guess I can live with it if reinstalling is the only option. Last edited by kyleh : 09-01-2007 at 02:27 AM. |
