Explorer.exe keeps crashing

My younger brother recently managed to get some spyware on his computer. It was some IE plugin, like VideoX Player or something like that. Anyway I managed to get all the spyware and whatnot off of it, but now whenever anyone logs onto the computer, the first that happens is explorer.exe immediately stops responding, ends the process and starts up again, only to stop responding once more (etc, etc). I tried running it in safe mode with the network cable out, but it still crashes. I also tried to boot the last good configuration but that didn't work either. (Apparently a configuration where windows explorer constantly crashes is a good one). Vista + IE = bad

Any suggestions?

Re: Explorer.exe keeps crashing

Hi cfs525

If the computer is a months-old Vista box, and you've backups of anything you need to keep = running the Recovery Disk (or a Recovery from the hidden partition) is a fair option.

If the system has a Windows Vista installation CD, you have the option to boot from the CD and try a repair reinstall --- http://www.windowsvista.windowsreinstall.com/ --- should you decide to try this sort of reinstall, however, try to make certain the system is completely malware-free first (if not, the repair can fail).

Best of luck
