Home Pre. Vista won't connect online

I recently purchased a HP Pavillion dv6510tx laptop. The problem is that the laptop won't connect online through the internet cable and I also tried it with my router Linksys WRT54GC v.2 (its compatible with vista, http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satel...VisitorWrapper) However my brothers computer which is older than mine, windows xp. Works perfectly fine except it too won't connect through the router. I've tried restarting everything from both machines to the router, reading and searching different threads and I'm still stumped. What am I suppose to do?

ps. my internet connection comes from a Hotel in Hong Kong

core 2 duo t7300 (2.0 ghz)
vista home premium
2gb ddr2 ram
4mb l2cache

any other specs you need just ask

i know it seems wierd how a computer/laptop won't connect online even though its directly connected, thats why its so fustrating to figure it out

right click on the connection icon in the tray and click on connect to a network

i found out more about why my notebook won't connect. I went to a store to get it checked out and they got it working but when i got back home it was like it all got reseted. The guy said my computer doesnt know how to identify the connection and that he just put it back on default. I know it wasn't me because it was like that when i first got it. So would anyone know how to identify the connection
