Re: re installing vista
If you currently have Vista installed you should be able to reinstall without damage to files/folders outside of Vista (games, untilities etc). Why do you need to reinstall?

Re: re installing vista
"just because its gone a bit wierd" is colorful but not very descriptive or helpful in describing the problem.
"takes ages to load up" how long is your load time? "the sidebar doesnt always load correctly" again not very descriptive or helpful in describing the the problem. Windows Vista should take about two minutes, probably less, to fully load and become usable. That can be shortened frequently but it depends on hardware, software, services and startup configurations. We don't have that information so it would not be prudent for me to start advising on what to cut out or remove. The sidebar will likely depend on a couple of things. Graphics and its associated drivers and configuration. Also what "gadgets" you have installed. Bear in mind not all of them will be 100% stable. You should consider providing your system specifications so that we have more usable information to form logical conclusions. There are a lot of very knowledgable folks on this and other forums but we do need information to work with.
